2nd year at ucsc here...just want to make a brief comment regarding that -
You should look at classes through the college's online listing...they have an online listing that allows you to extensively search classes, and you can virtually search for almost everything with that, as opposed to the confusing, cluttered, and relatively poor catalog you were given...
they changed the system from last year...for the worse I'd have to say...a lot slower, and it lacks a lot of information...it used to list pre-reqs to take the class, what more advanced classes require you to take this class, a general description of the class and what you should expect of it, etc. they're all missing now...hopefully not permanently...
anyways...
log in>my student center> and then under the academics tab look for "search">change the terms to "fall 2008" then go to "course subject" , then pick one and search
----
another thing that i found helpful...there's some bad teachers..****ty teachers...whatever you want to call them. they might be boring, they might teach ineffectively, they might be excessively hard for your expectations, etc. one way to prevent that, or at the very least know some negatives and positives of the teacher before taking the class, is to go here....
University of California Santa Cruz - California - RateMyProfessors.com
and just search for the professor's name in class that you're interested in taking.
Hope that helps!
