Can I get in?????

I'm going into my senior year starting September and wondering if I have chance of getting into UCSC:

GPA: 3.64w
ACT: 24 (going to be retaking it - and I didn't study for this one at all) Retaking it I can probably get a 27/28
SAT II: Not taken yet... But I will take it in Math and Physics, both which I had gotten a "A" in.

I also plan on writing an essay about why my GPA is low/and the lack of honors classes

Taking all AP in Senior year, but only one Honor so far (got an A both semesters)

EC:
CSF-3 years
German Club - Vice President-2 years
Started a Global Warming Club, and raised money to help the school go green-President of that
Waterpolo and Swim - 2 years (medaled in Swimming) (but not planning to do it in college)

About 200 hours of Community Service

I also took a class at UCI and got a "B" in it.

Thanks, and sorry if these questions are a bit repetitive.

wow. UC stupid cruz.

I guess you're just basing your opinion of UCSC being "stupid" from all of those b.s. UC rankings you see here on college confidential. Or maybe its because all of your friends got into "better" schools. UC Santa Cruz is one of the top 100 schools in the nation, public or private. It ranks higher than Kansas, Nebraska, Tennessee, Arizona, UOP, UC Riverside, University of San Diego, among many others. The fact that people may go to UCSC as a "backup" could give it a stigma that it's not a top school, especially when compared to other UC's like Berkeley and L.A. You aren't taking into consideration the fact that many people choose to go to UCSC for a reason. Whether it be the beautiful campus, the excellent research opportunities, or the prime weather and location. After all, it is a UC with a UC reputation.

Many people end up going to a school that wasn't their top choice because of reasons other than academics. Much of the time it isn’t even their choice to attend. My friend started at USC for 2 years, but her mom went blind and had to go on disability. She ended up moving back to Sacramento, attended Sacramento State for the rest of her Undergrad, and graduated Summa Cum Laude while working full time to take care of her mom. She’s now in her second year at Duke School of Medicine.

Waterpolo820 was asking an honest question and wanted an honest opinion, not some kid trying to knock a school they wanted to go to. With a 3.64 gpa he/she has a chance of getting into the majority of the UC’s, among other schools. And the fact that they want to apply to “UC stupid cruz” should tell you that maybe they could care less about the rankings and more about what campus would suit them best, given the campus’s academic opportunities, environment, location, and proximity to home. Honestly, nobody cares that you didn’t get into UCI and UC Davis. California resident admit rates for UC Davis and UC Irvine are 93% and 93.3%, respectively. Wow. So you’re in that bottom, 7%, Mr. CSF president. I don’t know if you’re a CA resident or not, but frankly, I just don’t care. Going by your rankings of having to go to a “bottom UC”, the fact that you didn’t even get into a “middle UC” like Davis or Irvine doesn’t speak much for you at all. And we can get into it about percentages and have this go on forever, but I’ve done my research and I have my weapons so I recommend you just take the loss and walk away before you make more of an ass out of yourself.

This forum was established for people to share their personal opinions, and of course freedom of speech has its place. But there’s an unwritten book of conduct that we all go by when we chat here, a book you might not be familiar with, called, um, COMMON SENSE.

So do us all a favor and finish sipping your coffee and put away your laptop wherever you are in middle surburbia, climb into daddy’s BMW, and drive home re-thinking who you’re spitting your pathetic words of wisdom to. Don’t take a swing at someone from the back, someone who wants an honest opinion on their chances of admission. Find the thread where people are knocking each other for being an idiot for not getting into the prestigious UC Irvine, and try swinging at people there face to face.

Honestly, the only thing that makes “UC stupid cruz” stupid is the fact that you “have” to go there this fall. Its people like you that bring good schools down. Its people like you who think they’re too good for what they’ve been given. There are thousands of kids here in America who are 10x brighter than you or I ever will be, but cannot attend a college like “UC stupid cruz” for whatever reason, regardless of all the aid available. They would kill to take your spot at UCSC in an instant, and quite frankly, I wish they could. You are given an opportunity for a world class education. If you want to knock it that bad, you’d go to a JC then transfer. But of course, you’d rather attend UC stupid cruz than transfer from a JC, because you’re the type of person who cares more what people think of you than doing what’s best for your future. Congratulations.

And by the way, knocking on people with honest questions on college forum don't count as community service, so you might want to recalculate your already inflated "300 community service hours".

Waterpolo820, your numbers look fine. You’ll do great, keep it up.

Thanks, I try. =] my stats were off...Those percentages were for the percent of admitted students that were from California, not what percent of California applicants were admitted. I guess I rushed looking up the stats in the heat of battle =P. But thanks for your input. It angers me when people abuse or misuse this forum, because it helps thousands of us students out and there's really no room for those kind of stunts. Take care

Your GPA looks good

mine was only a 3.4w
along with a 1710 SAT, 26 ACT, SAT II 590 and 610

not many extra curricular. alot of community service

ESSAYS ARE CRITICAL! FIND/DO SOMETHING YOU CAN WRITE A PASSIONATE LETTER ABOUT!! A very crucial factor.
I didn't get into UCI or UCD but i got into Santa Clara Univeristy and UCSC.

keep working. don't give up.

Awesome post nomosacto, I doubt even CaliTrumpet could have said it better, and hes like an AVID UCSC promoter (in a way)

As for WaterPolo... You have a really really good chance at getting in man, especially if your personal statements are good
Hope too see you posting on here a year later with all the 09ers asking questions and all.

As for the neverlose99 guy, would comment something to make you look even more ignorant, but I guess there is no more room for that since nomosacto, burned, blasted, and buried you

H2o polo, keep it up and when you get to UCSC in the fall of 09 be sure to check out IM innertube H2O polo. Played when I was there back in the 80s and had a blast. some of my best UCSC memories were made in the teeny tiny pool they had back then. My twin DDs are applying and both plan to check out the tube polo too.

nomosacto: Way to go!

hey HoMoSacto......instead of acting like some hero for knocking a post by a member of the discussion, why dont you realize that the waterpole guy has no chance of getting into UCSC. this class of 2012 was the biggest class in years and people with his stats dont stand a chance of getting in. This is a quote from you dip**** "California resident admit rates for UC Davis and UC Irvine are 93% and 93.3%, respectively"....Are you out of your frikin mind. You are retarted, why dont you read that again to yourself and see if that makes sense. If they accepted 93 % of their applicants do you think there would be thousands of people in Cal States and JC. MORON. Why dont you go read a book, i recommend Clifford the big red dog. It has lots of pictures so yuor brain wont be overwhelmed by all the words.
