I'm transferring in this year as a Junior. I've been set up for the psychology major and have completed nearly all the prereqs. Now I'm considering switching to environmental studies/biology OR neuroscience and behavior (biological sciences department). Basically, I just don't think a major in psych is right for me. However, I am into the biopsychological aspect of it, just not counseling/treament. Hence, my interest in neuroscience. Also, the environment is a main concern of mine so I feel I could fit with the envr/bio major.

I'm aware this course of action would me way back as I would have to complete several prereqs. Is this a wise course of action and how many extra years would it take to acquire my bachelor's in either of the above majors?

I don't know specifically the requirements, but the best way to go about it is to lay out, side by side, the Degree requirements for both degrees. Then, take your transcript from your Freshman and Sophomore years and fill in the requirements for each major. Ones that don't line up will have to be either "Electives" or won't count at all. Just depends.

Once you are done, this will show you which classes/how many credits you need for graduation. You'll then be able to tell how many credits are left. I would bet you would have a fair amount of overlap.

I don't know about UCSC's website, but if your transcript is already loaded into your profile, you may be able to pull a report (usually called something like Degree Progress) to see how the classes line up. My other daughter goes to CSULB and they have that on their website.
