Moved in today!

Moved into Stevenson today, UCSC really did a great job coordinating the move in process. Only drawback is they only let one car into the residential areas at a time; if you bring more than one vehicle you must park one vehicle in the remote lot while the other drops off your stuff.

Saw the dorms for the first time; had a surprsingly bigger space than we thought. Moved into a double, most of the stuff brought fit (too many clothes). Wireless worked fine and trash stations were set out for recycling all those boxes and plastic bags. They give you a laundry card that you activate; worked okay after two tries. Went to the bookstore to get books; thought pre-orders would be ready but was told all internet orders would be ready first day of class (9-24).

One thing that was surprising was the residential hall bathrooms, only three stalls, two showers and one washer/dryer. Hopefully this will be enough! Haha, just thinking ahead.

Best of luck to everyone, looking forward to starting the year!

How was bringing stuff from the drop off place to your room like? I have only another person helping me while another is driving to park back at the remote lot.

I have a bike, a mini fridge, backpack, a luggage full of clothes etc...

Can I just leave it there, or how does that all work out? Oh well, I guess I will find out soon, soon enough.

They give you a pass to bring your vehicle, with the stuff, to your residence. The vehicle pass is good for one hour. We parked right at the entrance to the residence hall. Only a short distance to the dorm.

My thinking is they were pretty lenient with that hour. Our problem was we had two cars with stuff, so we had to bring back one car before taking up another.

I moved into Porter on the 17th...stayed in the apartments the first night, since the B building wasn't ready yet...then moved in the next day. It's pretty nice, but it'll be better when it's all done.

Hahah yeah my Porter apartment was filled with early arrival freshman. I just feel bad that they had to move all their stuff from one building to the next. And one of the girls I housed went to her room and had no windows, her furniture was still in piles, and there was scaffolding on her balcony. But I think they'll realize that it's totallyworth it to live in Porter.
