Do any musical acts ever perform at UCSC?

Some schools have events where famous (or at least semi-famous) musical acts come to perform. Is there some sort of annual festival that UCSC has? I know UCSB has Extravaganza, UCI has Shocktober, and UCR has Block Party. I haven't heard of anything, and it'd be really cool if we did have something like that.

We don't really have a venue for musical acts, so we don't have big festivals like some other universities. There are smaller concerts and shows around campus and town, and there are big venues driving distance from the university, however.

One big festival type event we do have is the Kinetic Poetics Project - (disclaimer: I'm an organizer) where we bring in world famous slam poets for a 4 day festival in February. It's the largest collegiate poetry festival, as far as we know. A couple years ago we brought Saul Williams, so that's a big name for ya.

Oh that sounds awesome! I'm looking forward to that.

I wonder if there's any way we can book someone to come to campus and perform. I know there are other venues in the city where I can see shows, but I feel like we should have performers come to our school too just because I think it'd be cool and something the whole student body would appreciate. Thanks for your reply though!

It's definitely possible, we just don't have any large venues. If you're part of a student org that can come up with the funding and whatnot, you're welcome to organize it.

I'm not sure if any of you guys have heard of this, but there's this thing down here at UCI called ACROBATICS EVERYDAY ! Check out the photos to get a sense of what it's like.
I think it's a student-run organization that brings obscure and sometimes fairly known musicians to perform on the UCI campus (they almost got Deerhoof to play). The neat part is that these performances are held in various places around campus, including lecture halls and dining halls. I'm not sure if this is done out of necessity or novelty, but I find it to be an innovative use of campus space.
