stuff to bring

I'm not sure if there's already a thread about this...but I just created this account like...a minute ago...so sorry if i'm asking it again.
anyways...
I'm a new incoming freshmen this year (in 3 weeks) and I'm going to be in college 8. All I know is that I have a single, but I'm not sure if there is a specific time that I'm supposed to move in. I didn't get any emails about that yet.

Ok..so I got a list of stuff to bring into the dorm..but I'm not sure if I REALLY need everything on that list. And I imagine that there are stuff students would recommend bringing that's NOT on the list. So I want to know...what comes with the dorms (like a mirror? bed, desk, closet..etc)..and what would people recommend bringing? Oh and I didn't get to check out the sample dorm at orientation because I was taking the math placement exam.

Thanks!

Things that were included in my dorm (College 10, and should be universal around all colleges):

- Bed (of course)
- Desk
- Room light
- Trash cans and recycling cans
- Drawer for clothes and a little nightstand drawer
- Hanger space
- Chair
- Mirror on the door

You should receive a packet in the mail with a bunch of housing info as well as a specific time for your move in.
It will most likely show a floor plan of what a typical single in your college looks like, as well as tell you what you can and cannot bring.

Last year, I was in a small triple and I used a lot of boxes and things, just for storage. Seeing as you're in a single, you likely won't have that problem. (lucky!)

I would still suggest bringing hooks to hang things on, as well as some sort of healthy snacks. Sometimes, you just don't have the time to go and eat in between classes or before a class, and a quick snack is a great way to keep you paying attention in class instead of wondering about what's for dinner!

I have a bunch of boxes, I don't know how I'm going to fit them all into the car. I keep looking at it like.. "Do I need all of this stuff?" and the answer.. probably not, but I'll use the first quarter as a weeder.

You never realise how much stuff you have until you have to move it somewhere.

Oh yeah I only have a couple suitcases. Oh and my bike. Oh my computer, too. And a surfboard. Gonna need this bedding, too. Hmm...

If you think you guys have tons of stuff now, wait until you move out!

I had a small triple and even then, when I moved out I totally filled my Toyota Sequoia... even after taking out all the back seats!

Like aleiram51 said you think you have enough stuff now wait until you move out. You have no idea what accumulates in your room throughout the year. I had to make two trips to empty out my room.

Yeah... I'm not sure how, but I moved out with almost double the amount of stuff I moved in with. How that happened is still a mystery to me.
