Anybody going to use the Chickering health insurance? They revamped the plan from last year and it's about $600 less per year than what I have to pay for it for basically the same coverage.

I thought health insurance was "included" in the tuition and there was no option to waive it?

I don't think so, the plan is optional and you have to sign up for it.

There is a health facility and Pharmacy on campus, perhaps that is what you are thinking of?

We've been told by UCF that they include student health insurance within the tuition cost. Initially, at orientation, we had been told we could waive it if the student already had coverage on his own (as at some other colleges). I called to try to waive the coverage and was told that it cannot be waived because it's "rolled in" with the tuition cost.

A suggestion: $250,000 of coverage is rather low. I know this age group is healthy for the most part, but God forbid an serious illness or injury occurs... The $90 extra dollars for the 1,000,000 in coverage is a bargain.

mishdoob1--the student health fee is included in the fees covers the Student Health services--ie visits to student health. But that is just outpatient primary care available only during the time when school is in session. The website states: Basic services also include: Allergy injections, Blood Pressure Screening, Consult-A-Nurse, Immunizations, Laboratory Services, Radiological Services, Pharmacy, Post-Injury care, Referrals, Physical Exams, Surgery (Minor), Women's and Men's Clinic It is not insurance, ie the need to see a specialist, hospitalization, etc. need for care between semesters.

Also note that there isn't a graduated payment policy, you will have to pay the full shot upfront for the coming year.

I agree the $90 extra to bridge to $1M is a great deal.
