Excel Placement Test

OK so I took the placement test and did pretty crappy (recommended me for Intermediate Algebra). I was just wondering if this is the test that places me into my math class in the actual college or if I get another chance by the time school starts?

You can take it again if you want but if it recommended you take Intermediate Algebra, you might want to start with it. The failure rate for College Algebra is pretty high.

Is this test mandatory? never heard of it.

    Doesn't the SAT replace this?

If you're going to take a math class, you'll eventually have to take the placement test to determine what math class you need to be in.

Ok, I thought it was a remedial test. I didn't know it was required, because the SAT math would also replace this. guess it doesn't.

My D just took the EXCEL math test online and it told her to take College Algebra. What they don't know is that she is taking it as a senior this year starting in a couple weeks as a dual enrollment at the local CC. I guess they'll figure that out when they receive her transcript if she accepts to UCF....

So, it wasn't bad that the result of the test was "take College Algebra" then I guess??

    thanks

Yes if she gets credit for college algebra and can prove it at the time of registration, then she will be able to sign up for the next course, probably pre-calc if she is accepted to the excel program. My son was taking AP Calculus as a senior but his acceptance into the excel program was contingent on his taking pre-calc at ucf...he had a very good experience with taking pre-calc this past semester and feels ready for calculus.

You can take the test over if you feel that you did not do your best. My daughter was initially recommended for college algebra and felt that she could do better (since she was currently maintaining an A in honors Calculus in high school). She retook the math placement test the following evening and this time took her time with it (she rushed through the first time). She was then recommended to take college Trigonometry (MAC 1114), which she took it fall of her freshman year.

Chromeboy, what are you majoring in?
I'm listed as majoring in Industrial Engineering lol
They emailed me telling me to retake the test, hopefully I do better but im not hopeful since I haven't used any of this math since last year in 11th grade Pre-calc :(

For the excel program, what do they want you to score at? Anyone accepted into excel program? If so, where did you place on the math placement exam? I know excel has an outline for required math/calculus, anyone know how it helps with the sciences?

My s is in excel now. His placement test put him in the next class after College Algebra and he started with PreCalc at UCF. It was a special class just for excel students. He has had a very good experience with it. There is a dedicated math lab for these students with grad students there to help in math, chem, bio and physics.

I took the math placement exam recently and the system, when it e-mailed me back and stuff, recommended me for Calculus (1) and the Excel program sent me an e-mail but they said that my acceptance into Excel was contingent upon me taking Excel Pre-Calc ... my question is, why?? "/

My son took the EXCEL math test, was accepted into the EXCEL program and was recommended to take the Calculus 1 class. He is currently taking Pre-Calc during his senior year of HS, and his major is Mech. Engineering. Sounds right...
