where to stay during the schoollbreak

I was told most of the dorms in UC are closed during the three school holiday /break. I am concerned where my daughter can stay during the time when dorms are closed ? will UC provide place for the international students who wish to stay in the compus during all the holidays ? or they have to move out ?

Yes, there's a dorm that stays open, I think it's the shoreland. There's also International House, which does short term housing.

thank you.

yes, i noticed shoreland is the only dorm open during the breaks.
so fdoes it mean for a one week school break, she has to pack and move out from her room ,stay in an internatnional house or find a temp place in shoreland ? so troublesome, what about the fee for such temp stay?

during the winter and spring breaks, you can leave your things as is in your current room. (all you need to do is empty out the bathroom so the janitors can clean it over the break) i am not sure about the specifics on how to obtain a room in shoreland, but shoreland is definitely open during the two breaks.
i believe there is a fee (40 dollars per day?.. i might be wrong. someone correct me!) and i don't think it's that difficult to arrange a room in shoreland.

also, the only break you can stay in your dorm is thanksgiving break.

Thanks. During Winter and Spring break, can I stay in the current room ? or I have to leave things there , but look for somewhere else to stay, which does not make sense.

During winter and spring breaks you may leave your things in your room, but you cannot stay in your current room (unless you live in Shoreland). I just know Shoreland is open during these two breaks. So if you plan on staying on campus during the two breaks, I think Shoreland is the only place you can stay. (Someone correct me if I am wrong!) Before the breaks, you will most likely receive information on how to get a room in Shoreland.

I emailed the University regarding this issue and got this response:

Quote:
Thank you for your message. The only residence hall that remains open during the interim periods is the Shoreland. However, if a student does not live in the Shoreland, we do have a process whereby students who live elsewhere can find a friend (or sometimes a friend of a friend) who lives there and who would give you permission to stay in their room during the break. We have a form that you would complete and get some signatures on, but otherwise, it's fairly straightforward. So, while you would not be able to be in your own room if you don't live in the Shoreland, you can arrange for a place to stay during those break periods.

I hope that this message has answered your question. Please contact us again if it has not. If you wish to again update your housing preferences, you may do so until June 1st.

Oh, I also emailed them later asking them if it would cost me extra to stay at Shoreland during the breaks and they said it will NOT cost extra.
