Strangely enough, my reason for applying to chicago because I did not know about it at the time was a friend who got rejected with a 4.1. I had a 3.9, arguably better prepared than him in a lot of places. At any rate, I have met a lot of kids who were 1 in their class, and an equal proportion who did not do extremely well. Its not uncommon to hear someone say they had a 3.5 GPA or something along those lines.
