If you are so worried about attending the U of Chicago because of "its understated reputation", then the school probably is not a good fit for you. Most of the students that I have met at Chicago really couldn't care less about the common man's perception of Chicago's reputation and are at the school because it was where they wanted to go and its met their desires and needs for a top quality education, etc.

i just had an U OF Chicago interview and the lady just discouraged me to go there! she basically said that students have bad college experiences at u of chicago based on a survey...well now i don't know anymore if i want to go.. why is she interviewing for that school if she is saying bad things about it?? it's weird!

I wasn't even looking at it initially because it lacks the major program I'm after, but a friend who got in last year encouraged me to check it out, so while I was in Chicago looking at some other schools this summer, we spent a day at UofC, and I fell in love. It's tied for first now. It has the environment, the other school has the program.
I want to throw them into a particle accelerator and mash them together. And add some financial aid. o.o

LaVie: That's really strange. When I was at another school, we spent some time with my mom's friend from high school who was a professor at that school, and he spent a lot of time dissing it, but that was in an informal setting, not when he was supposed to be selling the school, as interviewers often are. So that's really odd.
