Chances--any feedback is welcome

Hey everyone, U of C is definitely my top choice, but I'm just wondering if I have a real shot. If my test scores are awesome, I have tons of excellent extracurriculars, and my essays turn out really well, will that make up for a few slip-ups as far as grades are concerned? I've only taken honors-level and AP classes, and the classes I got B's in were PE/art/music (all three of which were required for graduation, and at which I am terrible).

Other than that, science classes have killed my GPA--I got an A in Honors Chem, B's in Honors Bio and AP Chem, and--are you ready for this--a C in Honors Physics. Math, English, language, and social studies classes have gone really well, but I'm still very concerned.

What do you guys think? Also, does anyone have any advice to help me make it so that the admissions counselors look past my C?

Everyone has a shot at getting in if they apply- especially if your essays are as good as you say they are. Gradewise, sure, your GPA isn't perfect, but they don't expect it to be, especially if you've taken rigorous courses. So to actually answer your question, yes, great essays can make up for your slip ups.

U Chicago strikes me as a school that puts great stock in the "numbers" its students carry. Make sure you choose another school you "fall in love with" just in case. By all means DO apply to Chicago, but have a plan "B."

In respect to other institutions Chicago is not as numbers crazy and probably places more emphasis on the essay than many other top unis
