I didn't see this thread before (I never bother to check the class of 2013 forums) but yes, Chicago is not really a party school. There are fraternities and such, but it's not central to the campus experience. The frat parties "suck" because people don't put a lot of energy into them. And because brand new college freshmen are very awkward!!
Chicago is not a party school, but it's social. The "parties" I go to would be better called "overstuffed social gatherings," where a bunch of kids go to somebody's apartment, hang out, listen to music, play beer pong, and chat. They're perfect for me. I wouldn't be caught dead at a frat party.
