Er...I didn't mean to come off as a tool.

I had a valid reason for posting those stats, actually. I have a lot of friends applying to UChic next year, and I just needed to know if there was anything specific that I did that might help get some of the people I know in. I SERIOUSLY did not mean to come off as arrogant or flaunting. I'm sorry.

don't worry about it. I admit, when I first read your post, it seemed like you were a pretentious prick, but it hardly matters. Kids will always be more antagonizing on the internet than in real life, but just take better care not to come off sounding like a pompous jerk, because I don't believe you really are that way, and if you are, try to correct it. Remember, no one is going to know who you are come fall; what happens on CC stays on CC (for the most part).
In short, just try as best you can to disregard the comments in the other thread.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it. You have no idea how much I respect the people on here. Seriously...it's really amazing to see how much other people care about getting in, paying for their educations, etc. I truly have the utmost admiration for all of the people on here going through all of the stressful admissions/funding crap. You guys rock!

hahahahahhaha, man they really tore you apart for that other thread.

Yes, you did come off a bit of a dick (probably because you posted your acceptance stats in a new thread, instead of the "Officiall Chicago Class of 2010 Blah Blah") but obviously your new and didn't know about it, something people probably overlooked. They'll be glad to see your explanation though. These are a spirited and often tempermental group of people - believe me I've had my fair amount of experience in testing them.

P.S. I'm a bit of an ass hole, too.

Jarrett,
we have seen people with extremely good stats be denied or waitlisted - so your question is valid even if not well received.

Your EC's were very interesting - and its pretty obvious that there is more to you than a HS transcript. Your essays showed in some manner that you are interested in ideas, and would be a good fit with Chicago.

Assuming that a student would be a good fit with Chicago - and has the academic credentials to succeed - that information somehow has to be conveyed to the admissions people. This is where the essays, recommendations, and (to a lessor extent) interview comes into play. If you blow off the essay - or write one that is superficial - a fat envelope with a Phoenix may not be in your future.

i remember reading one post a long time ago during Early Decision time to a top teir college:

"I have a 4.0 UW, 4.75 W, 2350 SAT's, 800 Math IIC, 800 Literature, 790 Chinese. Im president of my class, placed in the top 3 of my state in fencing 3 years running, captain of the team, and president of my model UN club. But i can't believe i actually got in. Im not siemens westing house finalist or anything like that, so it was pretty amazing that I was offered a place. This gives hope to all you normal people out there!"

granted, id bet this guy was faking. but he sounds like jarrett

ok thats enough of my verbal abuse on jarrett welcome to uchi u jerkface : D

I suppose it all depends on the definition of normal.

Jarrett, my dear, you are a puzzle in so many ways.
