Hehe. Yes. 'Tis a big turn-off. I had one conversation (while wearing a UChicago shirt) where a lady said "Oh, my nephew is going there. He's going to a junior college first, and then he's going to be a pharmacist." The poor boy's plans are almost an anti-thesis to everything UChicago is. Needless to say, I was too embarassed to correct her.

Real situation with my mom (a U. of C. graduate) and a former coworker:

coworker: So, where did you go to college?
my mom: I went to the U. of C.
coworker: Oh, you went to Circle Campus, too?
my mom: No, the U. of C., the University of Chicago, not UIC...

Ugh. How can people be so idiotic? I understand that a very large percentage of Illinois residents graduated from the U. of I. school system, but how can one mix it up with our great institution of higher learning? For shame.

I joined... but no one here knows the UIC at all...
Though many people think I am going to public school next year. **** them; I am paying waaay too much for that.
