People say Chicago is a socially dead school, but I've heard some of the most intelligent, party- hard, down-to-earth, students go there. AND THATS why I want to go there. How far is downtown Chicago from the University?

In distance, approximately 8 miles. In time, anywhere from 20 minutes at best to an hour at worst. It varies with traffic, bus/train delays, etc.

Scrub, I'm sorry, we are actually sending viewbooks to international basics this week. So, we do send some materials, but not applications. I hope you like the viewbook!

Let's get this thread back to its original purpose, which was asking questions that I could answer for the good of mankind. I cannot answer "chances" questions, and for that matter, neither can anyone else.

Also, I want you to know that I will never take into account what is said on this discussion board when I read applications. Unless you print out a transcript of this discussion and include it in your application, it is null and void when it comes to making decisions.

I am posting this here in response to a question in another thread that the moderator asked be used for information posting only. In that thread someone asked Libby about the apparent drop in SAT scores. While there may be a discrepancy between accepted and admitted student scores, there was an overall decline in SAT performance this year, perhaps Chicago;s scores are simply following a national trend.

Libby,
I'm not sure if this has been asked or not but if someone is appying EA, does University of Chicago see senior "quarter" grades, or do they just put more importance to mid-report (semester) grades. (Our quarter grades don't go on our transcript) Thanks alot!

right, but if your applying early action, final grades aren't in by November. I know on their website they have a "mid-report" but that is completely different than a quarter report. So does U of C see the quarter report?

If the grades aren't on your transcript, we don't see them. We ask for your finacl semester or quarter grades on the midyear report. If your school doesn't report quarter grades (i.e. it runs on semesters), then you shouldn't report them to us.

This will all happen in January and February.

Political climate - extremely polarized, with a lot of involvement on both the left and the right.
