Libby...is it absolutely too late to file CSS profile? I chose not to finish it since I didn't qualify for the Pell grant via Fafsa plus I throught I wasn't going to make it u of C. Now that I've made it in, I'm faced with the financial dilemma. U of C is my dream school, and I'd hate for money to be the deciding factor. My parents make a decent living, but 40k per year is hefty

vutiful - It is not too late, but we cannot guarantee that you will get your financial aid package before May 1, which is when you have to reply to us. I'd say that you can deposit with us and deposit with another school, but you will have to withdraw one. If you withdraw after May 1, you will not get your deposit back.

ChenChen - to accept a spot on the WL, send back the WL reply sheet that you will get in the mail with your official letter.

mamafish - schools that are just starting IB often put students in the lurch -- since it's offered, they want to take advantage of it, but it does not have the full offerings. If she took chem or physics in 9th or 10th grade, good. If she can find any way to take those two sciences outside of school, she should. There are some fun summer programs around.

vircabutar - having an alumni interview is not that big a deal. Don't worry about it if you can't have one. I never did.

akx06 - yes. Those dates are the date we processed your material, which is typically a week after we received it. Nothing is counted as late. Nothing is ever "thrown out."

thinkgreen89 - it depends on the school, but we have no qualms about accepting 100% of the students from one school, even if 10 applied. We also have no qualms about denying all of them.

dc89 - no interviews now, but definitely send in supplemental materials.

lakerskingdom - we will begin reviewing a file as long as there is at least one teacher recommendation.

iloveschool - really, you need Ds and Fs, but you might get a strongly worded letter and be asked to explain the dip in your grades. The arrest thing was kind of a joke, but don't get arrested.

libby, i just wanna let you know. Chicago was my absolutely dream school. I worked long and hard on those essays. I offered blood, toil, and sweat for several days. I did not get one single minute of sleep for 72 hours. i wanted to study economics in the footsteps of milton friedman. all of it was shattered when mr. o'neil sent me that fateful letter. I just want to say that not one single student that has ever applied to chicago is more sincere than i am in attending the school. *sigh* i guess i just wont go on then. good-bye chicago...

I have a financial aid question, so I realize this might nto be something you can answer. I won a NM $2500 scholarship. But I was told this means I can't keep my $2000 per year award from U of C. This means I actually lose money. Is there anyway around this? Thanks so much!

hey libby, i have a question regarding math/econ at UChicago.

could you describe for me the difference between pursuing a double major in econ and math and pursuing the major of "mathematics with specialization in economics"?

also could you please describe the workload that comes with pursuing a double major, especially in the previously mentioned areas of study?

hi, i'm new to college confidential, and i was wondering if you could let me know where i stand and what my chances of acceptance as a transfer student to the u of chicago would be. i'm a sophomore in college now with a 3.825 gpa and have a good amount of extracurricular activities under my belt, including nypd auxiliary, various political campaigns. i'm in the honors program, am a part of an honors society, and on the dean's list. i had an internship with the district attorney's office and currently work for the college i attend.

my sats are about 1190. hs gpa was 2.8 and there i was pretty involved as well. i was part of varsity track, vp of 2 clubs, co-founder of another, and also volunteered for various political campaigns.

i plan on majoring in political science and was a forensic psychology major. i'm doing an entire turnaround. i wrote an essay about my religious journey/struggle in learned about God.

don't ask admissions counselors for chances. i guess you could make your own thread, but keep in mind it'll only be the opinions of other people on these boards.

lllusivereality: your stats look good, but it will depend a lot on essays and where you go to college. For instance, UChicago does not accept transfer credits from community colleges. Because UChicago is a very academically-based school, I suggest you mention something about that complete turn-around from a 2.8 to a 3.8. Overall, colleges will like that you're pursuing your interests.
