chances threads.....so....dumb...regardless.....please respond to mine

So here we go---I'll try to make this brief. I go to the best and most rigorous public HS in new hampshire.

We don't offer AP, but I have taken 14 Honors courses, and I take Government 3 at Dartmouth College (am earning an A right now).

the gpa is approx a 3.75-3.8, and we dont weight. SATs--2090, with pretty even breakdown, and i'm retaking.

SAT BIO: 680
SAT LITT: 640
AP LItt: 4
Math1/Math 2: in october

For ECs/Awards: I've frequented this page often and can honetly say i probably have more of these than anyone Ive seen. To be brief, I have played 3 varsity sports through most of high school, hope to play sports in college, am regionally ranked in track, and am nationally ranked (top 20 in nation) in policy debate. Besides that theres work experience, volunteer work, and a slew of other ECs/Awards/Summer academic programs that i dont feel like listing.

Thanks for reading,

peace,

Sam.

Well I don't go here, but from what I can tell, you have a shot. Probably depends on how much you want to go to University of Chicago.

thanks---I'm also assuming I have a better chance because of all the articles i see popping up that say chicago is after more of the "jock/frat boy type."--to help them shed the rep that UC is "where fun comes to die."

I also want to play baseball for them--does anyone know if Division III coaches have any influence in the admissions process?

I'm assuming they like Hanover too, because my sister was accepted with lower stats and no ECs

By the way, I'm intrigued that your school does not offer APs but appears to be highly competitive. I sortof wish my school would drop the AP label as well.

yeah we use honors as a substitute. I don't think it detracts from the difficulty

great. In my interview, should I try to subtly advertise that my presence will make the school more fun for everyone? (which it likely will)--or should I maintain more of the studious attitude?

Be yourself.

From what my son tells me, there is plenty of fun (as well as work) to be had at Chicago.

Idad-

Yes, I think for the majority of the students who go there, there are lots of ways to have fun.

Worth-

I see what you're saying about the University attempting to shed it's image, but I doubt they are going to change it too radically. I am a varsity athlete as well, but I still think it's more important to emphasize academic interests. This is how U of C has always been, and it's why their students were so attracted to it. Plus, the alumni would have a fit if they thought the school was trying to change their image to a less intense, "fun" one. Actually, a few years back, the president of Princeton switched to the University of Chicago and tried to make the University more like Princeton...more laidback and party-like, but the alumni were so incensed by this that they actually voted to remove him from the position.

Wow you think your presence will make the school more fun? Isn't that just the least bit egotistical? And way to bust out the "i have more ECs than anyone i've seen" as if joining more random stuff actually helps in the admissions process. Is not "quality not quantity" the first lesson that one learns on CC? Regardless, I think you will get in.

sorry

I apologize for sounding egotistical. I'm pretty easygoing and joke a lot--sometimes not realizing people may not know i am joking. I'm not too familiar with the etiquette of these forums, and I don't take them too seriously. I appologize if I offended anyone, especially drummerdude. Peace, 1 love, i'm sorry.

I think we need an 'irony' icon.

Have fun at your interview!
