Chances to get undeferred?

SAT changed from 1470/2090 to 1490/2290
Freshman Year GPA- 3.9
Soph GPA- 3.88
Junior Year- 3.45
Senior year (1st semester)- 3.88 (7 A's. 1 B)

Most rigorous coursework.
EC's are not a weakness, so I won't get into it. Submitted an additional rec after getting deferred from my GC.

Top choice school, by far.

p.s. when did decisions come last year?

It is really hard to predict what will happen this year. Two years ago my child, who was deferred ea, got in regular decision with a 3.6 overall cum and 1400 SATs (no writing was looked at that year). So clearly you have a chance of getting regular admission. This year there are so many more applicants, but I think that they will be using the waiting list which they have not used for a couple of years. So, even if you don't get in regular decision, you have a chance of getting in off the waiting list this year. Best of luck.

I'm feeling generous this morning, so let me state the obvious:

The Good News:

Your application sure hasn't gotten any weaker. You were deferred before, not rejected, so that means that you are still definitely in the game, and you have done the best thing possible to remove any doubts based on your 11th grade grades: take the most rigorous courses, and do well in them. Ditto for your SAT writing test. It's great that your GC has gone the extra mile for you, and I'm sure that if your application communicates your enthusiasm for Chicago that will help you.

You are clearly a smart person and a good student. You should feel proud of yourself and confident about your abilities.

The More Neutral News:

Who the hell knows? Lots of students with stats like yours are going to be accepted, and lots of students with stats like yours (and better) are going to be rejected. Chicago has lots of ways to evaluate your writing ability besides the SAT I writing test, so I don't have the impression that your big improvement on that will make a huge amount of difference there. The rest of your SAT I scores were fine before.

You have done a great job, and you ought to get into some great colleges. I hope it works out for you at your first choice, but there just aren't any certainties here.

Last year, if I remember correctly, Chicago released its results on the same day (which I think was the last Friday in March) as most of the Ivy League schools did.

Unfortunately, I had to turn down Chicago, because Duke gave me a lot more money. It was honestly the toughest decision of my life, and I still have my regrets about whether I made the right choice. Best wishes to all of you- you are attending a world-class institution.
