| Sorry to throw cold water on dreams, but waitlists have always been a longshot. Better to focus on getting comfortable with your favorite choice for those you did get accepted to.
Remember, you have several more shots at U Chi: transfer, grad school or professional school.. |

| I just received the call, about 20 minutes ago. I sent in an additional teacher recommendation, a letter informing them of my continued interest, and several new accomplishments.
Good luck! |

| Yes congratulations, this is particularly impressive since I believe Ted O'Neill is a White Sox fan. |

| hey cubsfan,
Did they give you anymore information, like you are one of a very few choosen off the waitlist? Do you think you fill a unique need, such as being a star tennis player or euphonium player? Was it your regional counselor who called? How long do you have to decide? Do you get financial aid? Sorry to be so nosey. I did the same things you did, but it doesn't always work out the same. Thanks for the info. |

| I think the meaning of the last communication was:
-- at this point, no one should expect to hear anything until the end of May
-- then, all anyone is likely to hear is either that he or she won't be admitted, or that he or she has the option to remain on the waitlist for another couple of months
-- they have taken a handful of special situation students off the waitlist (and I guess may still do that), but do not anticipate taking any significant number of applicants from the waitlist other than in response to the domino effect from Harvard's and Princeton's comparatively large number of waitlist offers
My understanding is that diehardcubsfan was an anomaly. The day after he/she got the call, the VP for Enrollment said that Chicago did not need to use its waitlist unless it lost a lot of enrollees to other schools' waitlist acceptances. Obviously, that may not have been 100% true, but just as obviously he wouldn't have said it if it were meaningfully false. Don't hold your breath waiting for good news. |
