The university made arrangements with alumni in our area and they held a meeting at somebody's house for the new students. Remember that school starts on Sept. 30 this year so there is a lot of time. I'm sure it's common practice and they will have one in your area.

Just realized, with all the excitement from post #130, I forgot to post myself. =) Decision: ACCEPTED Stats:- SAT I (by section): CR/MA/WR: 800/680/800
- SAT IIs: Physics 690, Lit 790 (or 780, something like that)
- ACT: N/A
- APs: World History (3), Engl. Lang. (5), Engl. Lit (5), Euro (4), US Hist. (4), Chem (5). Senior year (as yet unknown): BC Calc
- IBs: Junior year: Physics SL (7). Senior year: Chem HL, English A1 HL, French SL, Theatre HL, Math SL, Hist. of Americas HL
- GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.77 weighted
- Rank: 9 out of 72
- Other stats: National Merit Scholar
Subjective:- ECs listed on app: NHS (Recycling committee, historian), Theatre (3 years, secretary, acting/directing/tech, ITS cords), Literary Magazine (2 years, senior editor), Study guide blog (1 year, senior admin)
- Job/Work Experience: 1 summer housekeeping for neighbors
- Essays (subject and responses): Rilke's quote "Live the question" (I wrote the essay entirely in questions, a la Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead). Why Chicago?--wrote about my interest in the little digital bars on stereos and segue'd into interdisciplinary work, creative writing, and the Core. Didn't do the optional essay (and wish to goodness I had, just for the effort!). I forgot what my common app essay was. That means it was boring...
- Teacher Recs: Math/physics teacher (knew him for 3 years), theatre teacher (all four years), and junior English teacher (famous for her powerful/strange recs)
- Counselor Rec: Nice. She slightly exaggerated some things (out of ignorance, not nefarious purposes), but it was cute.
- Applied on: The last hour of the last day--when common app started to fail. Anyone remember the panic on these forums?
- Hook (if any): None.
Location/Person:- State or Country: Florida
- School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Public school with an IB Program founded to save its D-/F on the FCAT (Florida's standardized test)
- Ethnicity: white
- Gender: female
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
After typing all those test scores, I have come to realize how helpful they were at the time, and how meaningless they seem now. After typing what I wrote for my essays, I realize how much more helpful they must have been at the time, and how glad I am that I applied for and am going to Chicago. It's perfect, and I love it! =)
