For those of you admitted into DAAP for Fall 2009, what are you thinking in terms of housing options? So far, I've heard choices between Daniels Hall and Stratford Heights. Some info I've gathered from these posts and talking to the Housing Office:

1. Daniels is about 10 minutes walk from DAAP building. Rooms are mostly quads (four students per room), but lots of social interaction.
2. Stratford is about a 4 minute walk to DAAP. Rooms are a bit larger. There is a DAAP house in Stratford, about 25-30 students, but much less social as students stay in their rooms more. Tower Hall is larger, about 200 students.

I'm thinking Daniels at this point... because it is the more social option. I am guessing that the majority of the DAAP entering class will end up there, and I personally would prefer living in the dorms my first year.

I think I'm leaning toward either Calhoun or Siddall. Even though they are the furthest dorms from the DAAP, I think they have a lot of benefits. They are both social dorms like Daniels, yet they are only doubles. MarketPointe dining hall is connected to the dorms, and there seemed to be a good amount of cool shops and restaurants (Chipotle) just south of campus.

If you live in DAAP dorms, can you choose a roommate who isn't in the DAAP program? A friend of mine who also decided to go to UC and I were discussing dorming together since we have never gone to the same school in our lives. He's going into business though.

Just read that Siddall is closed next year for maintenance renovations. Morgans will be open - efficiency and one and two bedroom apartments. Not sure if those are only for upperclassmen or not?

nope, its morgen's is supposed to be for both undergrad and grad this year. i'm also considering morgen's. i'm just not so sure how social it will be considering its more apartment style.

You might want to call and see if Morgens is available for Freshman. In the past, they have required meal plans for on campus Freshman. That would be contrary to the huge benefit of having a kitchen.

As for the social factor, Daniels is definitely the most social. My daughter lives in Turner and has never complained about it not being social. As long as you don't stay in your room all the time you'll be fine. Go to the lounge to study or read and you'll meet lots of people. Don't rely solely on your dorm for social interaction. Join groups and organizations - be involved and volunteer. You will naturally find people with similar interests. If you are interested in a study abroad experience, volunteer to work at the study abroad fair. Not only do you get the information first hand, you also get the added bonus of service hours and meeting new people. Look on the UC website under student activities and student groups - there is something for every interest - and if you don't see one that you like - start a new group! At orientation many groups and organizations with have information available as well. Good luck at UC - it's a great place!

I applied for Morgens and Scioto, opened to freshman starting fall. They are newly renovated suite-style living with 2-, 4-, and 6-person options. Each room includes HUGE walk-in closets, a living room with some furniture, a kitchen with full size appliances and 1 or 2 bedrooms. They are also reasonably close to DAAP, only a few minute's walk

our daughter wants STratford heights..it has DAAP and Honors.
