Doctors for UC students

My son is an incoming freshman DAAP student and we are debating about whether to waive the university health insurance. He has coverage under our employer health plan, but he would need to find a doctor/clinic in the area that is a preferred provider under our plan (FEHB Blue Cross/Blue Shield). There are doctor's offices near campus at 2915 Clifton and 311 Straight both of which have a number of physicians who take new patients and who accept our health plan. Does anyone have any recommendations for area doctors who are located near UC, particularly at these two locations? He won't have a car so I'm looking for a doctor that is in easy walking distance. Recommendations on family dentists would also be welcome. Thanks.

Back in my day, if you were sick enough you stayed in the infirmary. That would be the only reason I would hesitate on waiving the U health coverage. If your S is sick, the infirmary is close by, open hours (usually) that fit a students schedule and if he is sick enough will allow him to stay there. (I think) If he sees an outside doctor and is really sick will he end up staying in his dorm room or will he have to go home.

Can't advise on doctors, but here's the dentist we have gone to for years:

Dennis Murphy
Terrace Ave. (off Clifton, about 1/4 mile north of DAAP)
513-221-1550

We are not waiving the health insurance just cause it's more convenient to be able to use the health center & not have to find a doctor who is in the plan. We did give our S a copy of our insurance card so in case of an emergency he has it. Guess we believe in redundancy.

My son goes to the Group Health Associates practice right across the street from DAAP. He has been able to get appointments the day he calls and they have a pharmacy in the building.
