Honors program

Hey... i was wondering if anyone knew anything about the CU honors program. I was invited to apply... and praying i get in.

I am majoring in mechanical engineering... any knowledge shared would be appreciated. Mainly: How difficult is it? Is there still time for a social life? etc...

Re Honors - D is in the program (not the residential program). It is ok, gives you access to either courses or sections that are limited to 15 or less, taught by teachers who want to teach them. These are most useful in my opinion for humanities/social sciences - more critical reading and discussion. Sciences not so much. It also gives you access to more advising - which I think can only help, especially at Big State U.

Engineering students have the rep for being hard workers and hard partiers. No idea how based in reality this is.

drb, my uncle is a recent college grad and an engineer (not a CU grad), and that reputation holds true for him. I think that's true for a lot of engineering students across the country... he was a pretty hard partier, but he was also a very hard worker and he's successful at his career today.

Anyway, I was invited to the honors program as well for the College of Arts and Sciences. Were you invited to apply, or were you invited to actually be in it? I got a letter that said if I confirm my enrollment at CU, my place in the honors program will be guaranteed. And it also included a letter to apply for the residential honors program.... not sure if I'll do that or not. Did you get a scholarship too? I got the Chancellor's scholarship, which is like $15,000 over four years.

My grades kind of suck now, but if I do well my first year, could I be admitted into the honors program my Sophomore year?

Yes, students with a 3.3 GPA are eligible.

Thanks! I think honors would be really good for psychology, I'm hoping it's more hands-on, you know?

How does the honors program at CU compare with the honors program at DU for someone interested in doing pre-med?
