General criteria for admission.........??

OOS.... around a 3.5 GPA,...SAT 1250/1600; 1890/2400..... Fairly safe for admission ? Or does UConn have different criteria ( officially or unofficially ) between OOS and in-state applicants ? Thanks.

Depending on what program you are applying to, I would say fairly good chance (although please take chances with a grain of salt). UConn does have different criteria.

Are you, by any chance, an URM?

NO... white. Interesting that UConn might differentiate on admissions depending on what programs applicants apply to.....inasmuch as so many kids change majors / fields concentration during their first or second year.

Not so much as the field they choose as the school they are applying to. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has different admissions criteria than the School of Business, etc.. Also, fields like art and acting require some established talent already. Even take something like Math, for example. A person with 400 Math SAT scores who wants to major in Math will most likely not be admitted. I don't think it is at all surprising that admissions differentiates.

being white is definetly a disadvantage when applying to uconn, especially out of state.

I would agree. When accepting out of state students, UConn looks to get some URMs. But I do not think that it is an issue when academic numbers are high enough.

Wow. ^ That's a loaded question. Honestly, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that for a few reasons, one of which is that I am not familiar with all of the colleges and their practices. But I'll be happy to continue answering not as broad questions (specific, useful, individual questions), and ones I'm more comfortable answering intelligently.

Haha that's okay, thank you! I went onto UConn's website to explore a bit, so I have a general idea of their special programs. I'll probably visit sometime in the near future anyways, so it's not a big deal.

I am an OOS, with a 3.8 gpa, an associates degree, and corporate work experience. I applied to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as a transfer and got in. I just finished my first year and will graduate in spring 2010. My best advice to you is if you have questions to talk to the admissions office. They are usually very nice and helpful. Usually, if you are an OOS you have to have scores that are slightly higher than in-state student. Good Luck! I'm really enjoying UConn and do not regret coming here at all!!

I go to UCONN and I'm telling you that you can basically call it a guaranteed admission. Unless your class rank is awful uconn is going to look at your grades and sats and see that each of them are in there top half and they are going to admit you. No doubt about it. I know plenty of people with worse grades and sats who are white with no standout characteristics and got in.
