Chances for an OOS?

Asian female from new jersey
Public, sends some students to top schools.

GPA: 3.3 UW, 3.63 W
not completely sure of class rank, somewhere in the top 30%
SATI: First time: M:700, CR:690, W:660, Total: 2050
2nd time: M:760, CR:700, W: 630 Total: 2090
Superscored: 1460/2120
SAT2: Chinese: 800, Chemistry: 620, US History: 720

ACT: 34

AP: Chem (3)
US History (4)
Chinese (5)
Taken 2 AP classes last year (Chem+USH), with another 3 this year (Econ, Bio, Euro)
Mostly honors classes, with the exception of college prep algebra 2, pre-calc, and I will be taking calc.

ECs:
almost 100 hours of volunteer at hospital, around 80 at Chinese school
layout editor for school newspaper
summer programs at BU and in China
some others.

So...Do I have a good chance? Plus, any other suggestions for school are welcome

I would say you have a good chance. I would encourage you to submit both your SAT and your ACT.

thanks, ThePhilosopher. I looked up the act conversion though, and a 34 is about a 1510/2260. With the numbers being higher than my SAT scores, can I ask why you advise sending both?

If you want to send only your ACT, that's fine too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all your SAT scores, including subjects, get sent in the same form. If so, the subject tests would be just an extra.

Wouldn't a 1460/1600 on the SAT almost guarantee admission ? My S had a 1450 and was admitted to Emory Univ - - I would think that same would surely garner an admit to schools like UConn.

I haven't the slightest idea. I was hoping so, but my gpa isn't exactly stellar. Congrats to your son though, I'd love to be able to go to Emory.

I'm a freshman in the honors program at UConn. I'm absolutely certain that you would get into uconn and the honors program, based on the information you provided.

UConn's stats are available, and you're so far above them that I can't imagine there is a question as to your admission.

Top 30% is by no means a guarantee into the honors program. I don't know of anybody who get into honors as a freshman that wasn't in the top 10% of their HS class. This goes especially for OOSers.

But into the school, yes, most likely.

myself: 2.6 top 40% 1430/2120 got in to honors program.
a friend: 2.9 top 20% 1440?/2140 admission to honors included with admission letter and big academic scholarship

generally, people with very high sats, also have very high grades. hence, you get a lot off people in the top 10% class in honors. when you have a less common combination, how you portray yourself becomes more important

Congrats to you and your friend on getting in, but I'm not sure what the circumstances behind you/your school/your friend/your admission were, and I can guarantee that it's not the general trend.

You're way undershooting with UConn. I've got many friends who are heading up there this year with 1 or no AP classes and SAT scores in the 1600 range out of the 24. Unless UConn is your dream school I'd aim higher.

I think some of you are being unfair regarding admission into UConn. 78% is in the top quarter of their graduating class. There are so many UConn haters, mainly because of our great basketball team. I noticed "MSU"Dad...

sjt, you're in. As for the honors program, maybe.
