Okay, I am 34/556 in my class(6%), i have a weight gpa of 4.0/4.5, and currently have 1700 on my sats. (aiming for 1800 in October) I have taken all honors classes, varsity sport all 4 years, over 100 hours of community service, involved in many clubs(even started one) ,have made high honor roll all 3 years(9,10,11) i won a state championship in football and baseball, i play piano and guitar, boy scouts for 6 years and earned the rank of life scout, i have a job, and was nominated for national honors society... i believe i could get into uconn but my question to you is how much financial aid do you think i could receive? i am out of state so 38 thousand a year is a little expensive.

I couldn't really say how much financial aid you would get, because it is dependent on a couple things: 1. How you compare with the rest of the incoming class. 2. What your EFC is. The second item is the most important since you are out of state. Your EFC is used as a benchmark, so know that financial services does not take the raw EFC and compare that with the tuition rate. The only way you will find out is if you apply and submit the appropriate documentation, so I recommend doing so!

So basically, i cant really ballpark how much. Let me ask you this tho, do you think i am strong enough to get any financial aid?

Again, your financial aid will not be primarily based on academics, so it is impossible for me to say.

so my guideance counsler told me today i dont have a shot at gettin into ucon, keeping the same information i posted in my original post, do you think i could even get into uconn?

What is your unweighted GPA, and what are your math and verbal scores for your SAT?

On collegeboard the "middle" scores seem to 1660-1930 with people falling under and over. There are no guarantees, UConn seems to have a number of great scorers get rejected or waitlisted and others not, but to say, "no chance" seems a bit harsh.
It reminds me of a student that said his GC said he had no chance of getting into an Ivy and he did, he just copied his letter and left it on his desk. : )

4.88/5.5, and i have a 650 on math and 520 on critical reading. I understand i am weak in this area, but that is not the only thing that schools look at. My gpa, class rank, and extracurriculars are above average, i have great letters of recommendation and i have taken all honors classes. I am very disappointed that my guidance counselor made that comment, dont feel bad for me and say i could get in, just tell me what you actually think.

Your critical reading score is very low. If the rest of your application is very good, then you have a shot. Definitely apply as early as possible (now).
