How much does UConn's social/party scene depend on being Greek? Are there fun parties to go to if you're not in a Frat? Do most of the kids belong or have good friends who are in Frats? What is the hazing situation like these days?
Most of the parties are right off-campus. Greeks are very social with each other, and are somewhat separated from the rest of the university. They do have separate parties, but there are plenty of public parties.
Hazing is not allowed, but I'm sure there is still some of it.
You do not have to be Greek to be involved in the party scene, by any means. If anything, a lot of non-Greeks (at least the ones I know) avoid the frat parties (for a few reasons I'm not going to elaborate on here).
I'm not in a frat or anything, but I know a number of people who are. Hazing is most definitely practiced, but as far as I know, most of it is in good fun and is not serious.
