Wanted to know more from the personal factor. What are the pros and cons. Do a lot of students stay around for the week-ends?

Also, I understand it is required to take 1 year of foreign language. Is that still true?

My son is a freshman at DU and is very happy. Most weekends he has stayed in Denver although he has gone skiing twice.(but just for a day--he doesn't want to be off campus for too long). A lot of weekends he keeps to campus, but often on one night a bunch of students will take the light rail to partake of things that Denver has to offer. For example, my hs junior son and I visited recently and my DU college son and his friends took us on the light rail to the 16th street mall for dinner.

There is still a one-year foreign language requirement but he likes his class. About 14 students, class conducted in the foreign language (2d quarter--he took a different language than in high school).

His classes have been small. First quarter, he had two classes of 15, one in the low 20s and his "big" class of about 50 but it was team taught by 3 full professors.

This quarter, he has 3 classes of 15 or so, and one class of about 25.

His classes are demanding but not absurdly so--he is always working but schedules in time for fun--he says time management is key because there is always a lot to do. He is in a fraternity and on the club ultimate frisbee team and on a broomball team and also is getting involved in some activities in the business school as well as at Hillel and Chabad.

Is there anything specific you want to know about?

Cheez,

Have you visited DU yet? We recently returned from visiting it with our youngest son and he is thinking of going there as well--he really, really liked it.

i'm also thinking of going to DU. at first i was really excited to go, but now i'm starting to have some misgivings. i'm afraid it might be too "outdoorsy" for me. i love skiing and nature and stuff, but i'm not sure if DU is the right place for me. i'm visiting in april so i guess i'll find out then.

the next school i would go to by the way is indiana university - bloomington

Johnny,

I laughed when I read your post because for my son it also came down to University of Denver and Indiana as his two favorite choices. They are both great schools so you can't go wrong. He decided that DU offered all that IU did, but, that being in the city, he would have more to do if he ever outgrew campus life. He and his friends do stuff in the city 2 or 3 times a month. He does stuff in the mountains once or twice a month two--he likes to mix it up between camping/hiking/snowboarding and clubbing/concerts/movies dinner. Because of DU's prime location, he has the luxury of enjoying both kinds of entertainment, not to mention all the stuff that's always going on right on campus.
