Business

Does anyone have any experience with either the undergrad or grad programs at DU? I'm surprised at the vast difference in rankings by Business Week and US News.

I'm going to be in the Daniels school of business in the fall. From what I hear it is an excelent school with good professors and good job placement after graduation. The rankings are a bunch of ********. Denver was 47th in businessweek last year now theyre 67th and im not sure about us news but i try not to go by the rankings. I dont understand why a school can drop 20 spots when theyre improving by all other standards. Part of me still believes that schools pay these companies to give them good rankings to increase their reputation and get more applicants. You can do great out of any school as long as you put your mind to it

Will you be in the undergrad or grad program?

I agree that rankings are not the best source and I sure hope they aren't rigged.

My son is in the undergrad business program at DU and really like it. Professors have been very good across the board--good teachers and accessible to students. He has taken advantage of a lot of special opportunities. His older friends are having no trouble finding jobs which is good to know too.

That's good to hear. I think I'm just going to aim for grad school at DU.

But how is undergrad life? I know there's a small proportion of undergrads to grads, so I wonder how that affects it.

Son is very busy all the time--he's involved in things both through the business school and also a lot of organizations on campus. He has not really gotten involved with any grad students, but maybe because he is only a freshman he hasn't really been exposed to any.

The campus always seems to have a lot of things going on and he and his friends also like to go in to Denver on the weekend at least once or twice a month--great restaurants and clubs. While a lot of people ski and board, it's not as overly-prevalent as he feared. He likes to board but he likes to do other things too.

My son got home about a week ago--just finished his first year. He was talking about some of the excellent internships the older guys in his house have this summer and is already planning on hitting the career center early in the fall quarter so he can snag one for himself next summer...
