Does early action increase your chances of acceptance for UF in particular? The regular acceptance rate for regular admissions students is 42%.

Since when does UF have early action again?

    It doesn't.

maybe the OP is equating applying by the Nov 1 deadline as Early action since you can apply after that date *shrugs*

Yeah, what Jenneraytion said. I heard that applying early gets you a schoalrship of $2,000 a year if you get accepted. I'm not really sure, but I think it helps...

i've never heard about that $2,000 scholarship but you are automatically evaluated for the various scholarships UF hands out. receiving them is purely based upon stats and for some scholarships if your an URM

Im hispanic and low income. Im also a florida resident. My gpa is an A average. I Took numerous dual enrollment classes...What are my chances for UF's scholarships and what are they specifically?

well Im URM but I don't qualify for any fin aid so I got Merit scholarships from UF but you'd probably qualify for FOS(Florida Opportunity scholarship) if your stats are good enough. DE classes can slightly strengthen your essay providing that you did well in those courses. Are you planning on getting your AA?

well, im 50% through with my requirements. So, yeah, probably. How does that help?

UF doesn't have early action and I'm almost 100% sure you don't get 2,000 just for getting accepted if you apply by November 1. UF's application deadline is the same for everyone unlike that of other schools who have early action/early decision and regular decision.

I applied in July. (2 days after the app opened). I got the best housing date, great FIN aid, and 2500 a year scholarship. It pays to apply asap.

Awesome! you've answered my question ufgator18. Im going to try to apply early as well. Did you apply to any other scholarships presented in the UF website? I'm actually eligible for the FOS scholarship except my mom managed to get her bachelors degree about 20 years ago...I dont know if that will exclude me completely.
  • ufgator18ufgator18 Posts: 352Registered User Member
You'll be excluded. Sorry. I'm almost positive. but you never know.

I did not apply to any scholarships.. I applied in July. Paid 20 dollars to housing in July.. and waited. Got accepted in February. In march the office of admissions sent me a letter saying i got the presidential scholarship. even if you don't get a scholarship, it still pays to be early. btw, i am NOT a URM. Feel free to inbox any questions.

Be sure to get your application in by Nov 1st so you can find out whether or not you got in by mid-Feb. If you apply after Nov 1st, they'll consider you on a space available basis and you DON'T want that. Also, don't wait until Nov 1st to send it in because the server will crash and there will be problems (that's what happened last year). Lots of students wait until the last minute to submit and the system gets overloaded. So avoid all that mess and get your stuff in at least a week early. The date you apply determines when you'll get an invitation to apply for housing so the earlier the better. The key though is to get your application in by Nov 1st.

Since you're URM, I would highly recommend that you take the PSAT in your junior year and do well. If you become a finalist in the national hispanic scholarship program, you will get many perks at UF. First, you'll get into the Honors Program and you'll get a scholarship from the Honors Program. UF will be more likely to give you even more scholarships because you'll be both URM and a finalist and they like the flaunt the number of finalists that come to their school. You'll get priority housing no matter when your actual housing date was, early signup for classes, and other stuff that I've yet to discover. You basically get all the perks athletes get minus the sports.

I'm URM, submitted my application a week before nov 1, national achievement finalist and got a letter in march saying that i got a platinum presidential scholarship and some other scholarships. Basically, UF likes smart URMs and will make sure you have money to come to their school. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.
