UF already has 25,190 applications, and still months to go!

UF gets more applications as admissions decline
by Nathan Crabbe

The University of Florida has seen a surge in applications, despite the fact that fewer students are being admitted.

UF received 25,190 freshmen applications as of today, about 1,500 more than at the same date last year. The freshmen application deadline was Sunday, although applications are still being accepted and those students admitted on a space-available basis.

Those students shouldn’t bank on being admitted. UF has cut its enrollment in an effort to address limited resources and improve student-teacher ratio. Next year it plans to admit 6,200 freshmen, 200 fewer than this year and 400 fewer than the previous year.

I guess it pays to be the 2nd best deal in all of Higher Education (source: Kiplinger)

Also does not hurt to have the best athletic program either...

I assume "admit" means "enroll"? To admit 6200 freshmen seems rather low for such a big school, even with UF's ridiculous yield rate.

^ Correct about 10,000 "First Time in College (FTIC)" accepted - and we have room for 6,200 to actually enroll.

I would like to see UF crack 30,000 total FTIC applications for this new incoming class. More than like to have anywhere between 27.5k-29.5k it will fall somewhere between that.

If UF wins another National Championship we may have a chance to crack 30,000 total applicants.

SS: Keep up your good works for the Blue and Orange.

How do explain the numbers being almost identical for the last two classes in terms of the number of first time applicants? Within 15?

In Urban we trust.
