Chances for Early Action

I am a white female at a highly competitive private school. I have a 4.0 GPA and my SAT is a 1180/1600 and a 1790/2400. I am taking four AP courses before I graduate: AP Calculus AB, AP Government, AP Psychology, and AP Environmental Science. My extracurricular activities include: Habitat for Humanity Leader, Freshman Orientation Leader for my school, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society), and National Honor Society. Also I have done numerous community service hours. I am hoping to get into UGA early action but I am not sure how good my chances are! Thanks!

It depends on how many AP courses your school offers total. They use that to determine your course rigor and that is one of the most important aspects of EA next to GPA. UGA doesn't look at extracurriculars or community service or anything like that for EA applicants. It's all about strictly GPA, Rigor, and SAT/ACT scores. You seem to be decently competitive for EA (but it also depends on what the applicant pool looks like) and if you get deferred then you are a very strong candidate for Regular Decision. Hope this helps!

I am not sure the exact number of AP courses that my school offers but I think they offer quite a few. This year I thought UGA was taking looking at extracurriculars for early action because they asked for them on the application but I'm not sure. Thanks for your help!

The only reason they ask for information on extracurricular activities on the EA application is so that you can be matched up with scholarships. The one great thing about applying before Dec. 15 is that you are placed in an automatic consideration pool for merit-based scholarships at UGA. I hear decisions might be coming out in the near future so best of luck to you!
