the shortest time anyone's finished their bs

just out of curiosity, does anyone know the shortest amount of time to finish a b.s. degree at uga? the reason i'm asking this is because i will be going in w/ 10 or 11 ap credits, and i want to see how far i can get. uga is my last choice, but if i can finish up my studies there in a short amount of time i'd consider it some more.

The shortest time I've heard is 3 years. I had friends who came in with 40 to 50 credits from high school, and they conceivably could graduate in 2 1/2 if they really wanted to. However, I don't know of anyone who wants to graduate in that short amount of time. You may be someone who desires that though, and I think if you take summer classes, and a LOT of credit hours here each semester (like 17-20, anything above 17 you need special permission) you may could do it. Call an advisor here in the college in which your intended major is and discuss whether this is a possibilty/ has happened before. I don't know what time frame you're thinking, but you're probably hoping for about 2 to 2.5 years, but this will take a lot of work, especially if you're only coming in with 10 or 11 credits, which is really common here. What other schools are you considering, and may I ask why UGA is your last choice?

I didn't receive a B.S., but I did finish a B.A. in history and political science in three years (I came in with 30 credits). I am now a graduate student. I wouldn't recommend finishing any faster than in three years...in fact, I wish I could've enjoyed my college years more. If you finish too quickly, then you have little time to decide what you really want to pursue next (whether that be a job, grad school/professional school, etc.). If you do decide to go to UGA, you'll be on HOPE, so why rush through the experience?

well, it's not to say that uga is a bad school; it is a great school. i think if you've seen my post in this forum before though, you'll know that i've been leaning on berkeley for the longest time and that i applied to uga just in case i didn't get into my top choice. the problem now is that i did, and to be honest, i'm looking more forward to the berkeley experience than the uga experience.

i received my uga honors acceptance today, which makes my problem even more frustrating. the only thing really appealing to me about uga now is the cost and the spot in the honors program. otherwise, i would've decided on berkeley at the beginning of the month. now i'm just stuck in this situation where i have to choose between my dream school and economically lenient school, which is really just driving me up the wall.

Congratulations on getting into your dream school! I can imagine your dilemma. While I don't know what your financial situation is, I think Berkeley may work with you if you need more aid from them. If they offered you more money, maybe your decision would be easier. However, I'm wondering whether you plan on doing post-graduate work. Do you plan on furthering your education after undergrad, such as med school, law school, obtaining a PhD? If you are, I would choose UGA if Berkeley doesn't offer more aid, just because it is wise to make a financially smart decison now to save up money to go to your top choice later. So many people I've encountered have told me that it matters at which institution you end up. If you plan to stop after obtaining a bachelor's degree, I would choose the school with the more nationally known reputation. While I feel an education at Berkeley and at UGA Honors are comparable, nationally most do not know about the Honors reputation at UGA. I hope this helps you a bit. Good luck with your decision; I do know how tough something like this is as I've wrestled with a similar decision previously.
