Can someone who has done this elaborate some on how competitive this is? I got wait listed to the Honors and I really want to pursue this, but if its too difficult i will probably just go to Emory.

Hey, I was able to get in Collegiate Entry, and I know lots of people who were successful in gaining entrance. UGA Honors allows Freshmen to enter after their first semester or first year. The requirements are that you take at least 15 hours (with at least 14 graded, meaning only one credit hour can be pass/fail) and at least 3.75 cumulative GPA. I would say that the higher your GPA is, the better your chances of admission. I would say a 3.9 plus and you have an excellent shot. As long as it's a 3.75 and up though, you have a good chance seeing as you have a good essay (take it seriously! Many don't because it's only one page and the question is usually why you want to be in Honors and what opportunities you will pursue in Honors, and those people are usually disappointed in the end.) Just do really well academically and be able to sell yourself in an essay. I think you'll have an excellent shot!
I don't know if you're like me, but I remember thinking when I was a Senior that if I don't get into UGA Honors, I'm definitely not going there and going to another school on my list. However, I'm really glad I stuck it out because UGA is excellent. I would have been highly disappointed had I not been accepted in Honors, but I now like the school so much that I don't think I would have transferred. I don't know if you really like Emory or not, but if you don't love it now or know much about Emory, definitely ask around and see if you'll like the quality of life there. I have a friend at Emory now who chose it because of its prestige and because she didn't make Honors here, and she's now trying to transfer back because she isn't happy at Emory. I just wanted to make sure this doesn't apply to your case. I hope you'll be happy and good luck!

i know a student with a 3.88 who got collegiate entry and another with 3.86 who did not. that is this year.

I think Green7 is very much on target...and she has afterall been through the process. For Atlmom: It is possible that the student you referred to who made the 3.86 didn't take the collegiate entry essay seriously enough or had taken too many "fluff" courses. Or it could have been one of those unfortunate random calls, but from the ppl I knew who went in via collegiate entry, it seemed like a pretty fair process.

I totally agree she is on target, I was simply showing it is competitive (and she did take the application very seriously).There are still spots that may come open from people who decide to accept other offers. UGA does not offer a lot of scholarships compared to some other schools but seems to put most of their eggs into the foundation fellowship/ramsey students.

Some honors students (who don't get or don't apply for these scholarships) have better offers from out of state (making os school cheaper) and decide to go elsewhere. One guy already said on these blogs, his spot will be available bc of that very scenario...my daughter is in the process of making the same decision..so maybe by the time classes roll around she will be in....or hopefully after first semester.

My advice is to see if she can submit extra recommendations for it....to show how much she wants to be in honors....

Atlmom, It would appear that your daughter has a couple of great choices then! Yes, I agree that UGA tends to put too much emphasis on the Foundation Fellow and Ramsey scholarships. UGA, as you probably know, is in the midst of a pretty ambitious fundraising campaign. I hope some of this money can go toward expanding the scholarship program here. But good luck selecting a school--you wouldn't happen to be the mother of a recent College Confidential poster who was trying to decide between here and UNC-Chapel Hill? If she is your daughter, she is in a enviable position to be in! Good luck with your decision.

Yes,that is my D. UNC is hard to turn down and is very generous even provide her the ultimate carrot a laptop grant....but the honors program at UGA makes that so attractive. Her intended area of study is math. She keeps going back and forth but I tell her, you have two great choices...(.It may come down to rock paper scissors.) Any insight into this is welcomed....we are both worn out over this.
