I'm a Junior right now, and I have recently begun the college search process. My dream school is UGA, but I do have others. I just wanted to know what do you think on where I stand in getting into UGA.

A couple of years ago I would have said yes you would get in but I don't know now. Your GPA is a little low but it really depends on your ACT so you will have to see.

Well don't colleges look at other things about the applicant?? For example, clubs they belong to, essays, volunteer work, and etc. My thing is that your chances at a college shouldn't be based on testing or whatever, it should be based on your character. The SAT or the ACT cannot predict what your grades will be like in college, you as the individual can decide how your grades will be. You can party all night or you can study & then have the fun later. The SAT & ACT doesn't mean crap to me, it's a useless test & cannot predict your future.
As an African-American I am always criticized for my low test scores & stats, but you know what, I work my but off in class so hard that I am proud to have a 3.1 GPA. I actually work for what I want unlike my fellow African-American peers; I don't take the easy way out. I also tutor young minorities & explain to them the importance of education, & why they should work hard or harder than their peers. I have worked for 17 years of my life for SOMETHING!
I work hard & I deserve to get into UGA despite the low scores! I can offer the same thing a person with a SAT score of 1300 or 1400 applying to UGA can offer or better!

Well what UGA does, if you have great grades, in the first round of admissions they don't bother looking at your essays and ECs before admitting you. If your grades are not up there with the rest, then they look at the rest of your application. You do have good ECs and the fact that you are African American helps but both your rank and GPA are still low. They take into consideration the difficulty of your classes but only having one AP that will raise your GPA is not going to help you either.

UGA is a really competitive university right now and it is not like colleges know you personally. They only know your grades and have to base how well you do in their college by your grades. My Black friend was waitlisted with a 3.6 GPA but was accepted at Emory.

You seem to be an idealistic person and maybe I am jaded but the world does not care how hard you have worked. They only care about the results of that work. It doesn't matter if you breeze your way through HS or work your butt off. You do deserve to be there but like I said, I think your ACT is going to be the deciding factor.

Would a 3.4 unweighted GPA(3.8 weighted) and 13 AP's with 14 tests by graduation be acceptable for UGA? I have a good ACT in a 32, but poor SAT in 2000/2400(retaking). SAT 2 scores: World History - 690, Writing - 700. I wont post my EC's because I have to go, but does that look acceptable?

ryan don't worry too much I think that your good ACT and several AP's will make up for your slightly lower GPA. 3.4 isn't too bad.

Chia you have a iffy GPA and class rank and that is what UGA looks for. Maybe UGA will look pass that and focus on those stellar essays that you will write (and you will too )

I give you about a a 40-60 chance, make sure you apply to some more colleges. Geogia state and southern would be good alternets.

hi, I am an African American male with a 4.4 GPA #5 in my class, with an SAT score of 1000, I currently work at Target, I am the Secretary of Beta Club, I am a memeber of Student Council, National Honor Society, International Key Club, I was an exchange student in Australia, I am also currently in NJROTC, and I am on the usher board at church, and I sing in the choir. What are my chances of being accepted into UGA?

UGA, according to the myth-busters listed on their web site, does not consider your class standing. For early decision, they consider only your GPA (along with, maybe, difficulty of course load) and test scores and, from what I have seen, GPA is more important. I know of one 2040, 28, 3.4 with APs and gifted who did not get early admission this year. By court ruling, they are not allowed to consider race (good for Asians) or sex (hence the 63%-70% female population). They do not consider whether you are a Georgia resident, and I do not know if they consider USA citizenship vs. international (or which is better if they do).

Chia06: Need your ACT or SAT scores in order to offer a reasonable opinion. Also, it would be helpful if SAT I scores are clearly designated as being based on the 1600 or 2400 scale. SAT I scores are most helpful when posted by section such as 620 Math, 590 CR, 640 Writing.

I was told by the admissions counselor that early action look pretty much at the numbers over the ECs, and RDers have a better chance to have all of the application considered

Hi i was wondering about my chances of getting in too. I was deferred from early action and am anxiously waiting for the regular decision.

My SAT score is 1250 out of 1600 and I made a 29 overall on my ACT

I have made mostly A's and some B's (alot of the B's were on the borderline of being A's) in my high school career; however, I struggled in AP Physics so I am wondering if that will effect my admission.

I have taken 6 AP classes (7 if you include Pre-AP Science) throughout my high school career: AP World History, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Biology, AP Physics and AP Chemistry
I have also taken 3 years of a foreign language (French I, II, III)

I was in symphonic band my freshman year and did sports sophomore and junior year. I was also in FBLA (one year), Beta Club (three years), Interact Club (two years), and joined the Math Team (two years) but i never held any office position in any of the clubs.

Any help would be appreciated.
