As a person growing up in New England and for the last few years living in a college town in VT, I'm somewhat knowing what to expect but still have some questions.
I was accepted as a fall transfer, but decided to stick with my old college so I can graduate with my associates degree this semester. I just re-applied for spring, and along with that I have some inquires.

Is there a likely chance of getting student housing as a student entering in Spring, and at that getting a room in a dorm that doesn't close for breaks (It would not be worth going home for a week for the breaks).

I will be driving my car down to school (yes, it's a crazy long drive, I already did it this summer living outside of Atlanta for a couple months) and was wondering if there is a parking permit/fee charged and how much extra is it?

I have heard from people (down there) that UGA is a party school... I really don't think it can be that bad as I have been around UVM for a number of years, and that used to be rated the #1 party school in the nation by the Princeton review... but onto the other question- My experience with traditional college students up here is that alot of them smoke weed (as most look the other way, it's not really a legal issue here...about 4/5 students I have been around do it) and I was hoping to hear that it isn't quite as common down there. Sure, once in a while if someone is at a party anyways I don't mind it, but I mean the mind numbingly boring stoner style, or the crazy freshmen who combine it with alcohol and get way beyond high and crazy.

Are there any older/non-traditional students around there... I was in the class of '05 so most of the people my age will be graduating this year, but I probably have 2 or three years to go to get my bachelor's and complete pre-pharmacy requirements, so this would be good to know.

Also, which dorms are less filled by freshmen... I kindof bane the idea of being around tons of kids just getting away from home for the first time... the drama, the stress, the experimenting - been there and done that long ago.

I did have more but somehow they are evading me right now. Thanks for any insight and tips you can give me!

Student housing in the spring might be a little difficult since everybody's already been moved in there for a semester. I'm not really sure where'd they put you.

About the weed...I don't personally know too much about it so...

Well, as a transfer, they shouldn't be even sticking you in dorms made for freshman (Russell, Creswell, and Brumby are the main ones). A safe bet is probably ECV (or EVC...same thing). I know O-House has single rooms as well as Reed. I would look into off campus housing though. Housing, food, and parking cost a lot and it might actually come out cheaper if you get an apartment.

Thanks, actually as an out of state student and how amazingly cheap rent is down there ($400/month for even some 2 bedroom places!) that it would cost less living in an apartment, but then again there are the headaches with landlords, rent payments, traveling to campus, and possibly not getting the same social exposure. Also, challenging as an out of state student would be even getting a chance to see apartments before committing, and the factor of nowhere else to stay if something goes wrong. Here's hoping they have an open bed somewhere this spring... Cause I would not be looking forward to working around snowstorms to fly down for an apartment search.
