Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, or Auburn for Biology Major

Anyone majoring in Biology at UGA, Tech or Auburn? My daughter is currently a junior in high school and considering all three schools. We are in state in Georgia. How do you like the programs and the university? Her gpa is 3.96 and scored just a 1240 on her SAT the first time taking it without any prep course or studying. She will take SAT again. She has taken 3 AP courses so far and will take 3 more her senior year. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

UGA--you'll have WAY more fun here.

yeah go to UGA...if you value fun over education...just joking. I think Tech is more math and science whereas UGA is geared towards liberal arts (i.e journalism, economics, etc).

Not going to lie...Tech is the 'science' school, so if she's interested in biology, they'll know what they're doing. But I'm a science major at UGA, and there are still plenty of opportunities for us here, especially when it comes to research. We have great facilities and some of the best labs in the state. I'm under the impression, though, that Tech is more geared for engineering. But whichever one...I think they both probably have good programs.

But just a note...while academics is the top reason for going to college, I think she needs to consider other things, like the feel of the school and how she likes it in general. My ENT doctor used to go to Emory, but then transferred to UGA, and he became a great doctor, so it's what you make of it. But a great program doesn't mean you'll have a great college experience.

My impression of Tech when I was applying was that its biology programs were more oriented towards engineering than anything else. I'm a UGA student, though.

I'm a student at Tech (not a Biology major however). If your daughter wishes to enter a Biology program, I advise NOT to come to GT (our Biology Undergraduate program is notorious for being horrible). On the other-hand, if she is thinking about going into Chemistry, and if she gets accepted to GT, then come.

For the most part though, I'd suggest her attending one of the many orientation programs at Tech that are held during the summer. (There is also one for Women as well). Not sure if UGA has anything that is similar, but if there is, she should check that out too, if she hasn't already.

I do agree with all the other posters, (save for Milledge, as that poster is OBVIOUSLY biased :P).

UGA definitely.
Tech has one of the best biomedical engineering programs in the country, but if your daughter is majoring in solely biology, UGA is the best option. I don't know much about Auburn, but as for UGA and Tech, everyone I know majoring in bio chose UGA over Tech.

All things being equal for Biology at GT vs UGA, GT is more prestigious.

GTech out of the options for BME, but your daughter ought to look at better options, with that awesome gpa.

I would recommend Michigan, Illinois, Vermont, Kenyon College, Pittsburgh, UFlorida, Rice, and Emory for her.
