SingerNLmusic -- it sounds as if from tiffw's post above that admissions said all letters would be postmarked by April 1st... that is not until Tuesday... it could still take a few days beyond that for a letter to arrive...

Waiting is agonizing! But try to hang n there for a few days more!

Any Hartt students out there?

Anyone on this thread that actually attends Hartt? My D was accepted to University of Hartford, but not Hartt. She received a sizeable alumni scholarship which we weren't expecting. She has one other school outstanding to hear from UMass Amherst for Acting BA.

Does anyone know if regular students can take classes at Hartt? I've asked the school several times, but no one gets back to me. Can any student audition for performances or is it closed to Hartt students only? Does anyone know much about Goodspeed? I see some Hartt students referring to this as a plus for this school. Is there a special affiliation with Hartt students only; or can anyone get involved?

UMass Amherst is more well known as a national university, but not for performing arts. UHartford may be a better fit for her with 20% performing arts students, but just concerned that the conservatory may be offlimits to non majors and she would have more performance opportunities at UMass.

Dear karenteic,
I was accepted to Hartt as a piano performance major. I wanted to do a double major, biology, with the University of Hartford, but I was told that I'm not allowed too. Hartt students can take their electives at the University, but no major. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I hope it might help somehow!
I would assume that regular students can take classes at Hartt, but cannot get a degree from there. That's just a guess, though.
Best of luck!

Mitra, thanks that does help. Too bad you can't double major. I can understand not letting kids major without an audition for performance, but restrict you to other majors doesn't make any sense except they probably want you to devote an enormous amount of time to performance. My D likes biology too.

They did note in their materials an English Major with a Drama Minor. I was trying to get some feedback from someone as to how the schools Hartford/Hartt interact - but will probably just schedule a visit for her.

And congratulations to Holly06 D.

My son is on his school visit to Hartt as we speak. He was accepted to MT. The staff of Hartt are very friendly and informative. The person who arranged the visit and answered the many questions I had runs the theatre dept. at Hartt. Her name in Joan and her office number is 860-768-4148. I bet she could answer your questions.

karenteic, mitra- My son is an '07 Hartt grad (viola performance), and I can give you the policies that were in place during my son's time there.

karen, UHartford students can take certain classes at Hartt, but their are major specific perormance clesses that are closed to non-majors. These are pretty much detailed in the University undergrad handbook and the Hartt supplement. Both are available on line. I know there is a music minor available to UHartford students through Hartt.

Performance opportunities and audition based productions are open to majors only. The Goodspeed program is also major specific.

Mitra- I'm surprised that you were told not that you could not do a double major. A couple of students in my son's graduating class had double degrees, BM's coupled with science BS, and two liberal arts BA's. There were at least 3 who did.

Also, Hartt has a number of double major (5 year in some cases) programs within Hartt combining specific music disciplines (performance/mus ed., performance/theory, etc.)

Thanks Violadad. That sounds like good news for Mitra and I will check out the undergraduate handbook.
