academic greek life vs social greek life at uiuc

so the general response i got from the college life forum was that it really depends on the school, that an academic sorority/frat could do basically the same things as a social one, or that they might not.

i was wondering waht the situation was like at uiuc. i know im somewhat interested in the honorary pre-law fraternity (im a girl, but i think that doesnt matter here). can anyone tell me more about what they do? their reputation on campus?

and if someone wouldnt mind telling memore about rushing. when does it start? how does the process go? im thinking of doing it this year for the sake of rushing, but i may consider pledging.

thanks

Yes there are academic frats( not sure about sororities) out here which are pretty social in nature as well. Some actually label themselves as academic( the engineering frat and the businedd co-ed frat come to my mind) while others are labelled social but they just happen to have a lot of memebers from one specific academic field.

http://www.illiniphcrecruitment.com/ go there to register for formal sorority recruitment. professional chapters don't take part in formal recruitment. i think you might join by word of mouth or something along those lines--not totally sure
