Dorm comparisons

My son's been accepted for 2010 and I want to jump on the housing application. As an engineer and (hopefully) Honors candidate, I think

1st choice: Burge engineering floor
2nd choice: Daum (honors)
3rd choice: ???

Anyone have any ideas for 3rd choice? Or dispute the wisdom of 1 and 2 choices?

Thanks!

I'm bumping Beastman because I have the same basic question. Can't anyone help us?

My daughter just got accepted direct-entry into the nursing school. Since dorm rooms are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis, they are telling us to send in our housing deposit now, before we even commit. We haven't been on campus yet, so we have no idea what to request.

Does anyone know what the Health Sciences learning community is like? Would it be important for her to live on the west side of the river, closest to the Health Sciences Campus, or does it really matter?

Ideally, I'd like to avoid any buildings that have a "party-dorm" reputation.

either way i recommend sending in housing preferences as soon as possible. You only lose 20 dollars if you do not attend and you can always change your choices once your "spot in line" is preserved.

basically review the dorms/learning communities on the website and choose what you want

the partying dorms will vary depending on who you ask. Ive talked to some people who say the party is on the west side where as others will say the east side. To stay away from the partying dorms your best bet is stanley or daum and the living-learning communities.

Burge has always been known as "THE" party dorm.

Iowa has a number of "living learning" communities within dorms. Complete list is here:

As one myself who could possibly be attending the University of Iowa next year I also looked into their Living-Learning Communities. Base off given information you may have to email the school for more.
