UMBC Honors College

Did anyone get an e-mail today regarding a decision to their Honors College? My son received one saying that they would not be able to make a decision yet and would notify him late in March. I was just curious if anyone received admission to the Honors College and what your stats were like.

We got the same e-mail message. I think more of the really smart kids are staying in state this year because of the uncertainty of the economy.

Guys, do not worry about the email. I called and the lady told me that since the Honors College has been receiving a very large number of competitive applicants this year, they want to make sure that everybody has a fair chance by taking time to evaluate all the applications comprehensively. She said that the decisions will be released sometime in March. This does NOT mean that there is anything negative about your app.

ilovebio - thanks for checking into this and posting a reply. So I guess we can breathe again! March sure seems like a long wait - kind of like waiting for Maryland to post their decisions:)

davenmame- No problem :) I called as soon as I saw the email. From what the lady said, they have received a huge amount of applications and it will be very competitive. Hoping for the best!

Zman - Really? I got my letter admitting me to the honors college in early February, if I remember correctly.

Do you mind posting your stats. My son hasn't heard yet. I was hoping he would hear soon. He got honors from Maryland, yet didn't get Premier from UMBC. Did you hear from e-mail or snail mail. What does the honors letter say? Thanks for any help.

Has anyone else heard anything more about being accepted into the Honors College?

I haven't heard anything since I got the acceptance letter about a week ago

We haven't gotten an acceptance letter or a letter saying she is not admitted. Still hoping to hear something. Did you get any scholarship offers with your acceptance

Was there any mention of any scholarship money in your letter. I can't figure out if all honors students get the $1K or just some. I know a few get a larger award.

Received an e-mail regarding scholarships for the Honors college. They will be mailed out next week. There will be one Honors Fellow (I think this is the $15K or so one) and 10 of the $1K ones. So chances aren't too good for my D to get any additional money.
