Early Action E.A.

I've looked everywhere I could online. I know the acceptance rate to Maryland is 39%, however what is the early action acceptance rate compared to the regular decision acceptance rate?

If you apply by the priority deadline, the acceptance rate is MUCH higher than by the normal deadline. During a tour I took of the campus, our tour guide told us that the acceptance rate for regular decision was 8%.

Technically, it's not early action like it is in some schools. However, you really want to apply by the priority deadline if there's any chance you could qualify for merit awards. Unless you plan to apply early Decision somewhere (where it is binding), I can't think of any reason why you should wait. Good luck.

So you guys don't know the acceptance rate differences?

If the acceptance rate overall is 39% and regular decision is 8% , then wouldn't the early action acceptance rate be 70% (overall acceptance rate is the average of regular and early)

That would be an unfounded assumption. Who knows how many students there are in Regular Decision vs. how many there are in Priority decision. You would have to assume that the majority of students would apply for priority decision rather than regular decision and that they priority registration numbers were somewhere in the 40s or low 50s (there isn't that good of a way to tell without asking).

When do you hear if you are accepted if you apply by the early date? Does it matter how long before the date you apply?

It doesn't matter if you apply 40 days or 1 day before the priority date....your app will be looked at with all the other apps that were completed by then. For the date, you can find it on posts on this thread....early Feb (I think????)

Oh, so its not really like early action at all, just earlier than usual? You don't find out before the application date to other schools, I mean. But apply early anyway, just to get merit aid.

So I'm guessing in order to find out the exact number I'll have to wait until the summer when I officially visit...hmmm I guess I can wait haha

lockn, exactly. Unless you are applying ED somewhere (where it is binding), I can't think of any reason why someone would wait and apply regular decision.
