| Anyone else still waiting to hear? I called Admissions yesterday and they told me "we are being told all admissions decisions will mail by mid April". My D actually applied EA but admissions lost her transcript (it was sent 10/10). I cannot believe she still has not heard. I told the admissions counselor we are out of state and my D visited over the summer and if admitted planned on revisiting for the accepted students day and I saw they were by reservation only and do fill up. He told me at this point it was not likely she would be able to attend an accepted students as they are pretty full. Is this ridiculous or what? I am tempted to ask for our application fee and the other costs associated with applying (college board, etc). back. My D tells me not to make a big deal out of it - but we applied in good faith hoping to receive a decision by early January. Is anyone else still waiting to hear and if so, when did you apply? |

| My son applied in early December. Info on the UMass website said that his application was processed on Jan. 28. As of yesterday, still no word - I called and was told the same thing as you - mid-April. This is typical UMass bull****. It never fails to amaze me how that school can screw things up. I graduated from there in 1974, and I presently live in a nearby town so I've had personal experience with and have read numerous stories about the bureaucracy and disorganization there. Fortunately my son will be attending another school so we're not holding our breath for the UMass decision. He also applied to UColorado, which is a larger state school, and received his acceptance from them almost a month ago. |

| Fortunately my D is also not waiting to hear from UMass to make her decision. Frankly, the whole application process turned her off. She is deciding between Pitt and a smaller LAC (the two couldn't be more different!). She still however would like to UMass's decision and if there is any scholarship before she definitely decides. Good luck to your son. |

| My S has also still not heard and his application was in by the end of November. Its the only school out of 11 that he hasn't heard from and it was a safety for him. Its totally out of the running at this point. They are so disorganized. |

| I sent in my application by the deadline and they processed it February 19th, yet I still haven't received a decision (website says "under review"). Meanwhile, I have already enrolled in BC. I never really considered UMass, but I'm amazed by the delay. |

| My son hasn't heard either. Thank goodness he received financial aid at some schools and that he was accepted at SUNY Geneseo so that he has options. When we started this process we thought that the only financially realistic option he would have would be UMASS. Kids have to make a decision by May 1st!! Kids cannot realistically consider a school that they have not heard from. I wonder how many people applied? Was the admissions dept just overwhelmed or something?

| I am fed up with UMass I have called and emailed so many times with nothing. I started emailing the Department Chairs trying to figure out what is going on with my daughter's application. Same story as many here. Applied in November. My daughter was set up with two accounts one with transcripts and one with SATs. They finally were combined in February and have been "in review" every since.
How can it take 2 months to review an application. The only reason that we are waiting is that if she can qualify for a State tuition waiver school would be free. I guess you get what you pay for.
But they did send me an email that they received 32,000 applications which is amazing that if the 71% acceptance rate is accurate that means they accept apprx. 20,000 which is the current size of the entire school. Maybe they are hoping some of the applicants will just disappear.
I just emailed the director of admissions, Kevin Kelly, to see if he can give any insight.

| I haven't heard yet either. Given I applied on January 5th when the deadline was the 15th, but it was processed on the 7th. I check my application status every single day, multiple times. I was really excited when on March 21st it went from "complete" to "under review." But It's April 10th and still has not changed. I know the admissions rate went down a few months ago to 66% according to college board.
I emailed admissions twice and got the whole "We've had a 14% increase in applicants this year, the competition is growing.." but I think I'll call tomorrow during lunch break. Does this mean that I've been rejected? A girl at my school found out in mid/late March that she got in. I'm really worried. |

| Heard back from UMass and was told me that my daughter was waitlisted with a guaranteed Spring 09 admission. Not sure what to do with my D for a semester - send her to Europe???? Did anyone else get this offer?
Can you attend a semester somewhere else and still have the guarantee? |

| i've heard nothing still... i guess your daughter can take basic requiored classes at a community college to get them out of the way for the fall 2008 semester. it's not the most fun option, but if you're dead-set on umass it may be the best. |

| Same thing happened to me last year during the admissions process. Got into schools considered harder than UMass but because I didn't hear till April 20th I was wait-listed with guaranteed Spring '08 admission. I'm pretty sure that happened to everyone who heard late and was qualified for the school. Same situation with my friend, he ended up going to WPI. |

| My D received her acceptance today. Unfortunately it really came too late to even consider. Accepted student day is two days from now - not much time to plan an out of state trip...... |

| When I was rejected 2 years ago, it was around this time I found out online that I wasn't accepted and I don't think I recieved my rejection letter in the mail until after May 1st... I then applied to transfer here last year and found out I got accepted in late April
I guess even after all the fee and tuition increases they still don't have enough money to hire more people for their admission staff. |

| My D is going to take the Spring guarantee and probably start off at Pace in NYC. We are finding that many of the private schools that she applied to are really coming through with scholarships to get her tuition down to close to UMass. We should have tried more private schools. When she was looking at school options we were focusing on tuition costs.
She is interested in theater and tried NYU auditions, but didn't make it in. Does anyone know much about the UMass theater program? I saw that they have a consortium with other five schools for performances.
Did everyone else know but me that the so called tuition waivers only cover a small portion of the tuition and not fees which make up 90% of the tuition cost. I was so excited that she would be getting free tuition; not realizing until I talked to someone at work that it only covers about $1,700. |
