I was completely shocked that I got waitlisted. All of my stats are well above UMass' 50%. The only reason i waited to hear a decision was to see if I would get any scholarships. Anyone else with higher stats get waitlisted?

I'm sorry to hear that sfehonda

I was actually planning on going here too . My GPA isn't that great (3.1 at a hard HS), but my SATS (both I and II) are FAR above this schools average

Is there a chance I can hear a final call before may 1st? when will i recieve the waitlist form?

My S also got waitlisted which was quite shocking. Although his GPA was not that high, his SATs were 1550 and SAT II 770, 780 and 790. Its incredible. He applied as a total safety. Fortunately he go in to other schools that he was much more interested in (Maryland, Binghamton, UConn , RIT), but its interesting how this played out.

My son was also waitlisted. Apparently the decision was made yesterday(4/16). He had stats similar to neuromom's son. Interesting to think that a student qualifys for an Adams scholarship but doesn't get admitted. My son had made up his mind that he did not want to go to UMASS. He stupidly thought it wasn't good enough for him. He has some good options available to him, thank goodness! I feel really badly for students who were counting on going to UMASS or students who needed to go there because they did not get enough financial aid somewhere else. I think the guidance counselor's at MA high schools now have to tell kids that if they want to go to UMASS, they need to apply early action

Did those who were waitlisted get an offer of January 2009 admission?

I was told by an admissions counselor that everyone on the wait list will be given the option of a guarantee admission for Spring 09. I just called today and the form should be sent this week and there are two boxes. One to choose just the waitlist for Fall and another for the Spring guarantee. You can check both. They also said that if you are chosen off the waitlist you will hear by May 31. My husband said there are 3,000 on the waitlist and apprx. 200 will come off.

My D has Hartford, Pace NYC and Penn State Erie to start off at - but will probably transfer over in the Spring if she doesn't make it off the waitlist, but its not great that she has that she will have to settle into her first year twice. I'll probably let her spend a semester in NYC. Maybe will be an experience for her.

Don't know if anyone else noticed; but I thought it was incredibly competitive across the board at all schools this year. Too bad our kids had a peak year to contend with. There are alot of above average kids having problems.

I was shocked when I was waitlisted too. My gpa and sat's fall within their range. My essay was really, really well done. I attended Drum Major Academy over this past summer there and intended to do color guard there. I even emailed the band director. And my own band director made a phone call reccomending me.

I recieved my letter about a week and a half after my app status page changed. There's actually 4 options you can choose from: 1. to decline the waitlist offer. 2. to take the waitlist offer. 3. to take the spring 09 admission. 4. to take both the waitlist offer and the spring 09 offer.

I also heard they waitlist about 3,000 (10% of the applicants) students. They start notifying people in mid-may (In UMass terms, I've learned, that really means in June) and will send most offers by july. But there's a possibility that you will hear later since kids drop out last minute sometimes.
