I have. I was accepted to the BA in Music and Theatre in the Frost School Of Music, and got my scholarship by mail.

Scholarship

Did your scholarship come from the Office of Financial Assistance Services or from the Frost School or did you receive 2 separate offers?

Directly from Frost.

However, a friend of mine got 3/4 on Talent for the Theatre BFA a few weeks ago.

My daughter just got her letter yesterday! And it was a wait-list letter. What took so long to tell someone they were on a wait-list?

Anyway, it said nothing about musical theater, which is what she auditioned for. Anyone have a clue what this all means? Can she basically forget about the musical theater part of this application?

thx

homestretch...I don't have your answer, sorry....but agree that this late date is ridiculous to notify students of their admissions outcome with the National Reply Date being May 1. If your D is at all interested in this school still, you may want to call and ask what it means...if it is a waitlist for the university itself or for their MT program. Regardless, your D still needs to move forward with the schools she did get into but if she wishes to pursue the waitlist, she may want to find out directly just what the situation is there. Why don't you call on Monday as it is a very legitimate question.

homestretch - I called yesterday because we never heard anything. They totally screwed up my D's application (since she had applied to the school last year, too). They said they'd try to put it through now and I tried to explain that it was too late, because the MT department already chose their students for next year. I was so mad! Fortunately, my D had already made her choice to go to Boston Conservatory. I'm glad we weren't waiting/counting on Miami (although it was her favorite location). I understand they have a TON of applicants, but they were not even apologetic.

Lynn....that truly SUCKS, I agree!

For this reason, one thing I advise with clients is to check in with schools in the winter to make sure that they have all the documents and that the application is considered complete, etc. One might think it is not necessary but these screw ups are not uncommon. One of my D's schools last year had on her online personal page that no audition appointment was made and in fact, we made it online (the only method that school uses) within minutes on the first day that online appointments could be made and I was holding the printout of the confirmation and charge to my credit card! The department had no record of it. Had I not been vigilant to notice this on their webpage and checked, I'd have rightfully assumed everything was all set...which indeed I had done and even made flight reservations. By that time, the audition appointments were full but they honored my D getting her appointment "back" as long as I could fax them the receipt I had printed from the internet when I had made it. So, given all these strories, I think one has to keep on top of checking in with them. I also agree that they should have been apologetic as it was THEIR mistake and it was a COSTLY mistake. At this point, be happy she is going to BOCO . Also, she may have liked being in sunny Miami but as someone who went to college and grad school in Boston, she is going to have a blast there!

For anyone reading...check in and call schools midway through the admissions process (past when you have sent everything) to double check that all is in order. It can never hurt. These stories are upsetting and I hate to see it happen to anyone unfairly.

Unified Auditions

I need help! I can't find the audition requirements anywhere for NYC unifieds anywhere for the BFA MT program. I remember looking at it like 5 months ago and now I cant find it! Does anyone know the audition requirements? I think i remember it saying that you have to have two contemp. monos. My school prepares students with a classical and contemp. only, but my school counselor said they dont care bc our school is respected by them blah blah blah. Does anyone know how long they have can be and how long the two songs must be??

Thanks!

Our s is applying at UM in Musical Theatre -- is there a BA and a BFA and can you only apply for one? He's auditioning and they've been very encouraging (despite that he has a 3.8 and only a 1760 on the SAT and a 27 on the ACT) so they can't only accept FOUR boys. Why would they want him to try out then, if they had their quota, in case someone refuses? I'm just curious. And what's the music theory exam?

If I remember correctly they have 2 MT degrees, one through Theatre (BFA) and one though Music (BM); so perhaps they accept 4 boys/girls in each program? And I wouldn't think they've filled the spots yet, they're in the middle of auditions.
