University of Miami...

Someone mentioned Miami might be a good place for D. who wants to be a pop singer. They said Miami has a recording studio.
So she sent for info. They list Musical Theater majors...which she does not want. Also they have a major in Studio Music and Jazz..Vocal.

What do they mean by studio music? Would that be a possiblity there for her major.

Any thoughts on this college?

Thanks!

That's a very difficult talent to find a college track that coincides. I have a student who is looking for the same.

For pop singing (and especially if she composes) I would recommend Cal Arts. She would also be close enough to L.A for career opportunities.

check out their webite and best of luck to you.

Thanks Mary Anna, We do have CAL ARTS on our list..but she will want to apply to several colleges so we were wondering about UM's record label etc.

Yes, I am familiar with the opportunities, but my student took if off the list because of wanting to live in L.A.
I really don't know any more about it than that. Sorry

Was anyone just at the Miami BM MT auditions this weekend?

We kinda got to know everyone there because it was such a small number auditioning (only 13!) I was wondering if I had unknowingly met any CC people there.

It was a pretty fun audition, acutally. Everyone bonded, musical theater nut style, around a piano before the dance audition. There was some fantastic talent!

I auditioned for Miami at unifieds and auditioned in front of Bruce Miller and really liked him. Anyone know when decisions will be mailed?

8 for the BM, 8 for the BFA. Four girls and four guys for each.

People accepted to the BA program are considered on the waitlist after the first 16 responses are sent out. If any no's come in, the BA acceptee's will receive notification that they have been taken out of the BA program, and accepted into their top choice major (BM or BFA).

is the admissions academically as competative as the actual schools? Is the program considered a more or less conservatory, or is it as tyough to get into academically as U-Miami (which adverages a 4.0 GPA... something I'm far from)... do I still stand a chance?

drum87-U Miami MT cannot even consider you unless you have an 1100 on the old SAT's (I don't know about the new ones). They said if they absolutely love you, they can't fight for you unless you have at least an 1100....

well I submitted ACT scores, and I had a 28 (including a perfect score on the new writing section) which is in middle range for Miami (27-31). I'm nto worried about anything except the weird requirements that schools throw out there like class rank (being in top 10%) and GPA... I have a solid 3.0 (and currently a 4.2), which is fine, but just weak at a school where the adverage is 3.0. I'm in the top 50%, but that's it. I'm barely in the top 50%.

I'm guessing my chances then are slim...
