This is what UofM folks told us yesteday. They are going to recalculate the GPA for admission using following GPA scale:

B- = 2.7
B =3
B+ =3.3
A- =3.7
A and A+ = 4

Honors and AP classes will be weighted on GPA 5 scale

Anybody knows how this is scaled? some online scales are
A is 5,
A- is 4.67,
B+ is 4.33 and
B is 4.

I am not sure if they consider art and other classes like cooking will not be considered. Also, will they consider 9th Grade grades? thanks!

I thought they stopped recalculating GPA? Usually a 5 point scale means you add one to what you got (i.e. A- is a 4.7, B+ is a 4.3, B is a 4.0). I believe admissions always considers all high school grades, including 9th grade. They will look at grades at courses but if they are recalculating, I'm not sure if they will recalculate with those grades in courses such as art and cooking. Best of luck.

Call them again; you'll get a different answer.....and if you call again, you'll get a third.....

In 2008-2009, they changed the way they calculate right smack in the middle of the admissions cycle......

I've been keeping a scorecard for 5 years and counting.......along with the number of times our state rep has changed (that's now up to 4 in 5 years)

Yes, in my opinion you are better off worrying about your unweighted GPA with UofM. They can "see" how many AP classes you took and they can read a high school profile and see what classes are "rigorous."

What do you mean by UofM folks? Are they admissions representatives, or just students?

they are not admission folks. He may be a kind of counselor. He advised a UofM medical camp students of this so called GPA recalculation. He also mentioned that college can be 4 times tougher than HS

In April my d and I did a visit (there were about 200 parents and students there) and they made it very clear that they do not weight any grades but they look to see if the coursework is rigorous. Looking at the posts it sounds like there are many changes or differences in answers depending on who you talk to! Also, Freshman HS grades do count.

I visited with my daughter last weekend and the admissions person says they will be using unweighted grades now which is a change from what they told my son a couple of years ago.

This is different from the official version. The use whatever the School calculates the GPA. If th GPA is weighted, that's what they use. Lots of schools use weighted GPA. The unweighted GPA students will be the biggest loosers!

It really doesn't matter. Really. The admissions people will look at your transcript and pretty much be able to understand how you did in high school. The unweighted GPA students are not disadvantaged in any way.
