| I am a Human Resources professional (did my graduate students in Industrial and Labor Relations). I live in Dubai because I am an Arab and wanted to live closer to my family and friends. Besides, I grew up in Abu Dhabi (my father was a banker for a French bank in the UAE), exactly 100 miles from Dubai, so I am very familiar with the area. |

| Alexandre! I got admission to UMICH Ann Arbor in Engg. I am an International Student. Though I applied for ECE, no mention of that in the admission letter or the website- it just mentions as Engg. In contrast, UIUC clearly mentions as ECE. I may get in CMU and there also I believe you are told whether you have got into the major you wanted or not. In such a situation, Is there any risk in taking UMICH as it appears that there is no guarantee what I will get after one year? |

| I believe there is a risk in that if your GPA is not high enough, you may not be able to major in Electrical Engineering. however, the expected GPA is not outrageous, but you are going to have to take your studies seriously. I would not rely entirely on what I say. I really recommend you contact the CoE at the University of Michigan and ask specific questions. |

| Freshmen (and 1st semester sophomores) in engineering generally take a common core curriculum of required courses that all engineering majors have to complete to make you a well-rounded engineer. It is generally not until the 2nd semester of your sophomore year that you start taking courses in your chosen engineering major.
As long as you meet the requirements to remain enrolled in the College of Engineering, there is nothing that would prevent you from selecting ECE (or any other type of engineering) as a major. |

| Congratulations, Alexandre. You have been extremely helpful to many students and families on here--and your title of moderator is well-deserved. |

| I applied to college in 1991 (yeah, I am old!) and I wasn't a SUPER moderator at the time. In fact, I don't think CC even existed back then. However, if I were to apply to college today, that is not something I would mention on my application form. |
