Nope, you can defer your enrollment. There are a handful of students who do so every year.

i asked. They said i can defer my enrollment but my ross preadmit status wont carry over. so i think i m not going to take a gap year if i end up going to mich

According to "Ask Us":

"Deferred admission is only offered to admitted freshmen who wish to delay their enrollment at the U-M because of personal needs or interests outside of college or university level academic course work."

Valid reasons for requesting an admission deferment would include (but not be limited to):

* military or public service
* unique travel or work opportunity
* illness substantiated by a doctor's written confirmation
* cultural enrichment opportunity
